C#.NET There are various ways we can track errors in ASP.Net, but here I discuss about how to track page level errors and their source and cause. The page level error tracking process will track all types of error except syntax errors. To use the page level error tracking we need a Page object to track the issues on a webpage. The Page object has an error event that is fired when an unhandled exception occurs in the particular page. It is not fired if the exception is handled in the code for the page. By placing the following code snippet to any .NET web page it will catch the error at page level and do proper action to avoid page crashes. We can redirect the error page to a custom page to display a user-friendly message to the user. protected override void OnError(EventArgs e) { StringBuilder ErrString = new StringBuilder(); // Get the Error details from Exception class HttpContext ctx = HttpContext.Current; Exception exception = ctx.Server.GetLastError(); //--Get detail information about the error source, path and trace ErrString.Append("Error Message : "+ exception.Message.ToString()); ErrString.Append("Source : " + exception.Source.ToString()); ErrString.Append("Error Trace : " + exception.StackTrace.ToString()); ErrString.Append("Error Path : " + ctx.Request.Url.ToString()); //--Redirect to a custom error page to show a user friendly message //--Clears the previous exception ctx.Server.ClearError(); //--Raise the error event base.OnError(e); } Rasmita Mohanty , Sr Developer, Mindfire Solutions.
