I hope that someone can help me with this, I've lost a lot of hair over the past few days! Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 32bit Fixing a laptop for a friend. A Samsung R530 had a failing 500gb hard drive. We bought a new WD 1tb hard drive, then used Spinrite on option 2, to get the old drive in a useable state. Then fitted both drives into my pc & used Acronis True Image 2015 to clone the drives. The old drive popped up a message several times during the clone about impending failure. Installing the new drive into the laptop, it failed to boot. However I was then able to run the Samsung recovery utility from the BIOS start screen & refreshed the Windows installation. Afterwards the drive booted ok. Windows Update failed to work & I spent a day or so fixing that. (Updating the Intel drivers fixed it.) Now I find that the BITS service won't run. I have spent a day so far trying all sorts of fixes with no luck, so am asking fo

If you are having problems with downloading Windows updates because BITS will not start or background intelligent transfer service disable is giving errors, there are a couple of ways you can try to fix the issue. If you are getting any of these errors, read on: Background intelligent transfer service did http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/581470/background-intelligent-transfer-service-cannot-start/ not start properly Background intelligent transfer service will not start Background intelligent transfer service has stopped working If BITS can’t be started for some reason, first make sure it is enabled in the Services control panel applet. Go to Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and click on Services. Make sure that Background Intelligent Transfer Service is set to Automatic or Manual as the startup http://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/background-intelligent-transfer-service-will-not-start/ type. If it’s not set to Manual or Automatic, then double-click on it and change the startup type to either one of these. If the service is configured correctly, but BITS will still not start up properly, check to make sure none of the dependent services are disabled. Again, go through the list of services and make sure all of the following are set to Automatic or Manual: Terminal Services, Remote Procedure Call (RPC), System Event Notification, Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extensions, COM+ Event System, DCOM Server Process Launcher If all of the services are correctly configured, you can try to delete and reset the download queue by deleting the following two files: %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr0.dat %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr1.dat Now try to start the BITS service by going to the command prompt and typing in net start bits. This will reset the BITS transfer queue and hopefully allow the service to start properly. If not, then continue reading! If you are running Windows Vista and you cannot start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service, you can download the BITS Repair Tool to fix any problems corrupted BITS files. This tool by

problems with the Automatic Updates on a Windows 2003 server (the problem described in this article also applies to Windows XP). I was running WSUS in my domain, but the updates didn't arrive. A quick investigation resulted in A LOT OF ERRORS in the event viewer. For a couple of days, the following error had returned every one or two minutes or so! The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with service-specific error 2147942402 (0x80070002). Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7024 Date: 3/31/2009 Time: 3:48:14 PM User: N/A Computer: computer name Description: The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with service-specific error 2147942402 (0x80070002). In my case, I couldn't get the Background Intelligent Transfer Service started again. The following error messages showed up every time: Windows could not start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code -2147024893. If you see the same error in your eventlog (event 7024), you should know that there are a lot of possible solutions. Now, I do not feel embarrassed to tell you that I checked almost every solution available on the internet and spent quite some time on this issue. So, because of all the effort I have put in this problem, I decided to sum up all the solutions for you I've tried. Hopefully it will help you solving this BITS error. After each step, try to start the BITS service. If it doesn't start successfully, just continue with the next step :) Step 1: Open services.msc and check that the following services are set to start Manual or Automatic: Terminal Services Remote Procedure Call (RPC) System Event Notification Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extensions COM+ Event System DCOM Server Process Launcher Also make sure that service Workstation is Running Step 2: Delete the Downloader folder. You can find the downloader folder in the following location: "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader" The Application Data folder is hidden by default, so if you don't see the Application Data folder, go to folder options and check the option Show Hidden Files and Folders Step 3: Delete all content of the SoftwareDistribution folder (do NOT delete the folder itself, only the content!).
