So I took the plunge. Saved my data and formatted the C partition. But when I installed from the XP CD, and when it came to Windows starting, I got BAD POOL HEADER. The C partition being newly formatted, bad pool header there can surely be no virus issues, nor driver conflicts. Nothing has been installed yet! Memory sticks? They are old but passed MemTest86 recently. The sound card is on board. I will look into the display card next. I welcome your comments.
