Can't Access Website From Inside Domain
few minutes. Join Now We just recently had our company web site redone. It has the same name as before, but a new IP address. Since they shut down the old site and fired up the new one, we cannot get it to resolve the IP address of the new site. This is a real problem because it is the default home page for everyone, set cannot access website externally by group policy and despite sending out an email last week explaining that the internet is not down its just a problem with their home page, we are still being inundated with complaints from users that they can't get on the internet. I know that this is a DNS issue but I don't really know how to solve it. The hosting company has it set up that www.mocomaine.com resolves to just mocomaine.com, which in turn resolves to the IP address of the web site. In Firefox, I can type www.mocomaine.com and get to our web site, but in Internet Explorer (which is most users' default browser), www.mocomaine.com resolves to just mocomaine.com and they get an error saying the page cannot be found. And I can't force it to take the www. I know this is DNS-related because when I ping both www.mocomaine.com and mocomaine.com, they resolve to the web site address (66.155.35.240). However, when I do an nslookup, www.mocomaine.com resolves correctly to 66.155.35.240, but mocomaine.com resolves to the IP address of our primary DC. Our internal domain name is corp.mocomaine.com, but we do have a forward lookup zone called mocomaine.com. One of the entries i

Cannot Access Company Website Externally
Sign in to vote Hi. We have an client who every few days cannot access their website internally. It doesn't happen all the time, but https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/341823-we-can-t-access-our-new-web-site-from-within-our-domain-dns-issue when it does the only way for them to gain access again is to restart the DNS Server service on their server. They run a SBS 2008 server with Win 7 (32bit) clients. If I do an NSLOOKUP whilst they can't get access I can see the SBS server, https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/4cb4d296-0438-4049-92a4-01312dc3b969/dns-issue-cannot-access-company-website-internally?forum=winserverNIS but get no see no non-authoritative answer back. It's obviously some rouge DNS issue but does anyone know what might randomly cause the drop, and what the solution may be? Thank you in advance. You can create a new primary zone for your Website (different from the external one) named www.website.com as an example and then create a A record (empty one)for your web server. Now the website is accessible from outside the network but not accessible from inside the network. The ISP is the same and we can't access the website using our ISP. It doesn't resolve the dns at all. If i try pinging the website, it website from internal says 'host lookup failed', even nslookup is failing. When trying to access the website via the IPaddress, it refuses. The problem is in the ISP but i don't know how to solve it and the ISP isn't being very helpful. dns shared-hosting share|improve this question edited Feb 21 '15 at 20:49 PeeHaa 40.7k33133216 asked Oct 6 '14 at 11:55 David 7319 Try using google's DNS server? nslookup www.stackoverflow.com 8.8.8.8 –Charlie Vieillard Oct 6 '14 at 12:10 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted This often happens when someone is running authoritative and recursive DNS on the same servers. Which is why you should never do that :) It also happens when your local domain (Active Directory?) is the same as the domain you use at your hoster. Never do that. For example: if your domain is example.com then don't use example.com as your local domain. If you do then both your hoster and your own servers believe they are authoritative for that domain. Once the zone data starts to diverge you have this kind of weird problems. Instead use a subdomain of your domain name for your office, like office.example.com so that example.com can remain authoritative at the hoster
