"(output started at ............ on line 23" Whats on line 23? –Paul Dessert Jan 11 '12 at 0:53 Line 23 is the 'session_start();' bit of the code above. –user1039878 Jan 11 '12 at 0:54 1 In my case I had to set the file encoding without BOM. –Wessam El Mahdy May 6 at 5:54 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 156 down vote accepted "Headers already sent" means that your PHP script already sent the HTTP headers, and as such it can't make modifications to them now. Check that you don't send ANY content before calling session_start. Better yet, just make session_start the first thing you do in your PHP file (so put it at the absolute beginning, before all HTML etc). share|improve this answer answered Jan 11 '12 at 0:55 houbysoft 14.5k1260123 11 Put above everything and it worked, thank you! :) &n

A bit of background to the problem and what I have done so far... We recently transferred to a new server so that the site could be on its own and run a little bit quicker etc. It is only since this transfer that the error has occurred. Based on what other sites have recommended I have ensures that there is no white space before the PHP: php and also that PHP: session_start(); is the first thing that appears. I have also made sure that it is not saving with BOM signature. Evidently the problem is still occurring (have attac
