And the Certificate should match the name by which you are accessing the OWA site. So just register a name for OWAand assign a certificate to it. Or remove the SSLsecurity. _____________________________Regards, Jugal; MS Exchange Architect & Designer If an advice works, report this to the fourm. office. Environment: Server is SBS 2003 with all service packs and updates. Operating system on laptop is win 7 professional SP1. We have a 2 router setup - 1 router is the http://forums.msexchange.org/OWA_Certificate_error/m_1800483061/tm.htm 'gateway' and faces the public internet. The other router is for the internal network. I have setup an A record which is mapped to our fixed IP address (IP ver 4) Ports 4125 and 443 have been opened on the router. Router has latest firmware and works fine. Account settings were modified in outlook - checked 'outlook anywhere' check box and correct settings configured in 'exchange https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0a519582-3a17-49cb-92c6-081b44fa57a5/outlook-anywhere-rpc-over-http-ssl-security-certificate-error?forum=smallbusinessserver proxy settings'. Basic authentication enabled. We do not use a commercial 3rd party certificate - nor should we be compelled to as SBS 2003 generates its own basic certificate during configuration of the CEICW wizard. Note: Outlook Web Access (OWA) works fine. Symptoms: 1. When the starts outlook and enters username (domain\user) and password, the following error message appears: "There is a problem with the proxy servers security certificate. The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target site [server IP address]. Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server. (Error Code 10)" Interestingly, we also get a certificate error message when connecting to the server from outside the office (ie not from the local/internal network): "There is a problem with this websites security certificate" error when using OWA - but we can continue (by clicking "continue to this website - not recommended"). So its never been a real issue. It has now become an issue when we want to use the full functionality of outlook 2007 (RPC over http). I do not wish to purchase a commercial SSL certificate and dont think that micros

will need to do the following: 1 Open Internet Information Services Manager, or the custom MMC containing the Internet Information Services snap-in. 2 Expand Internet Information Services (if needed) and browse to the Web site you have a pending certificate request on. 3 Right-click on the site and then click Properties. 4 Click the Directory Security tab. 5 Under the Secure Communications section, click Server Certificate. 6 On the Web Server Certificate Wizard, click Next. 7 Choose to Process the Pending Request and Install the Certificate. Click Next. 8 Type in the location of the certificate response file (you may also browse to the file), and then click Next. 9 Read the summary screen to be sure that you are processing the correct certificate, and then click Next. 10 You will see a confirmation screen. After reading this information, click Next. You now have a secure server certificate installed. Now you must assign it in Exchange: 1 Using the Internet Services Manager, open the properties for the Exchange virtual directory. 2 Select the Directory Security tab and the click on the Edit button in the Secure Communication section. 3 In the Secure Communications dialogue box, check the box Require Secure Channel (SSL), you could also check the box Require 128-bit encryption, if you do check the 128-bit checkbox, any browsers that do not support 128-bit encryption will be unable to connect to OWA. Now when users enter http://www.yourdomain.com/exchange, they will receive an "HTTP 403.4 - Forbidden: SSL required Internet Information Services" error message, because we have configured OWA to require SSL. SSL uses the HTTPS protocol, so users would need to enter the url as: https://www.yourdomain.com/exchange. Related support material How can I add an SSL certificate to my domain/website?
