to access. This can happen when you start using a new computer because the OS doesn't have the root certificates from any (or some) trusted authorities; therefore, it fails to automatically accept those certificates. I'll explain what all this means in a moment but the bottom line is that if you're missing certain trusted certificate authorities your web browsers will be in a petulant mood until you make the adjustments. Check the date Sometimes you can fix the issue by verifying your system date is accurate. For example, if you glance at the date and notice your clock is set to January 1st 2000 then that could be the issue. Why does this happen? My best conjecture is that you have a dead (or dieing) CMOS battery that needs to be replaced. If the CMOS battery dies then low-level functions like maintaining the system clock will start to suffer. For some reason I am constantly getting certificate errors when hitting sites where I really shouldn't be getting them - twitter, picasa, google analytics (but gmail works), my bank, etc. This http://superuser.com/questions/223024/continually-getting-https-certificate-errors-on-all-browsers is happening in all browsers. This is happening in all networks (at work and at home). This is definitely an issue with my laptop or operating system. I know the usual cause is my date being set incorrectly, but it's definitely correct. The error I am getting in Chrome is the following The site's security certificate is not trusted! error on majority of websites Discussion in 'Software' started by dip0, Jul 14, 2012. dip0 Private E-2 Hi, I've had a look through the suggested threads and while my issue is similar, the suggested solutions (Time/Date, update certificates) http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/certificate-error-on-majority-of-websites.261818/ did not work for me. What happened: I had Adblock IE installed for the 30 day trial and uninstalled it using Revo (as was suggested here following my previous malware issues). I then ran CCleaner on mostly default settings, though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYij1qiSv1o I also opted to clear: Index.dat Autocomplete history Saved passwords Recent docs, run, search autocomplete, MRU, network passwords Old prefetch Menu Order Environment Path User assist history IIS log files Hotfix uninstallers Ever since, nearly every website I visit certificate error I get the IE information bar telling me that there was a problem with the site's certificate and certain content was blocked for my safety. This seems to affect the majority of websites that I visit with exception of: CNN Microsoft (main site only) Also affected are: Google Outlook Web Access standard (not lite) Gmail standard (not basic hmtl) Microsoft Update In fact, I just got locked out of my gmail account when I tried to swap back to Standard getting certificate error view to empty the trash because it kept attempting to access my account and failed due to the error. I have previously updated the website certificates via Microsoft Update back in June this year and I've verified that both my windows and BIOS time and date are correct. I was able to access windows update last night and got the newest updates (not certificates though) but again have been unable to do so today or the day before yesterday. Seems very sporadic... I've run malware and rootkit checks and they have come up empty. So I am very much at a loss at what I should do now as it very much limits what I can do on the web. I run: WinXP MCE SP3 Internet Explorer 8 Thanks in advance dip0, Jul 14, 2012 #1 Goldenskull I can't follow the rules Ok i would start out bye running threw this thread.Read & Run me first thread. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 If you find any thing go to the malware forum and request help to remove any thing.
