a central SSH server and port forwarding 443 to the WRT54GL access points. So I still had a use for SSL on the WRT54GL, linksys router ssl connection error as I am sure some other people did too. Is there anything that can be done on this end to the firmware for the WRT54GL to fix this? Using Tomato Firmware v1.28.7635 Toastman-IPT-ND ND VPN schnappi, Oct 21, 2014

#1 Grimson Networkin' Nut Member This has nothing to do with the WRT54GL or Tomato. If Firefox 33 doesn't accept self-signed certificates anymore you eihter have to buy a commercial certificate, create your own CA or downgrade Firefox/change your browser. Grimson, Oct 21, 2014 #2 koitsu Network Guru Member Answer is here (read every post, do not skim): https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1018618 If the cause is due to certificate size (I'd need to see some openssl c_client debugging info), then that could netgear router certificate error be rectified. But their document says "signatures LESS THAN 1024 (bits)", not "less than or equal to 1024 (bits)", and if I remember right Tomato defaults to 1024-bit certs. P.S. -- The entire point behind using SSH and SSH port forwarding/tunnelling for accessing your router is so that you don't have to use HTTPS/SSL. You can use standard HTTP (plaintext) and simply SSH into your router/wherever and visit http://127.0.0.1:someport/ and access your router's GUI. No HTTPS/SSL involved. Nothing is plaintext across the Internet using this method (everything is encrypted with SSH). Last edited: Oct 21, 2014 koitsu, Oct 21, 2014 #3 schnappi Serious Server Member Thanks. But if you port forward 80 as opposed to 443 to another machine it is still visible on the LAN. Not a big deal at all...but still do HTTPS when possible. Figured the same thing you did regarding that it may be certificate size. Do you think anyone would be willing to change the firmware? Unfortunately not knowing anything about writing firmware I don't know how big of a deal it is to change. schnappi, Oct 21, 2014 #4 koitsu Network Guru Member If you can't trust the physical network your machines are on, then you have much bigger problems to worry about. That said: no, packets would not be visible to other machines on the LAN; the packets would be constrained to the router itself. There's no po

How about trying that? Sorry I didnt explain clearly. I have a custom firmware on a Linksys WRT54G. I purposely set it to https only. (It used to ask me if I'd like to accept the invalid certif or something, and I'd pick yes, but never to save it -- how can I revert back to that?) · actions · 2008-Oct-21 5:45 pm
