Outlook Security Alert Certificate Keeps Popping Up
are getting certificate errors when they open Outlook 2007 or use AutoDiscover to create new Outlook profiles. The error specifically states: "The name on https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/940726 the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site." This error is causing messages to appear in cached mode users' Sync Issues folders and other problems. Plus it is just plain annoying to see it pop up every few minutes. I have an Exchange https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/cbd292b0-3c6e-4c03-9213-ca248917f9c4/exchange-2010-autodiscover-certificate-error?forum=exchange2010 2010 (RTM) environment setup with two CAS/HT servers and two mailbox servers CCR-replicating in a DAG. AutoDiscover on the CAS/HT servers is setup using the single certificate redirect method per this article . (Created a new site called AutoDiscover that points to a folder called AutoDiscover_redirect with a folder called AutoDiscover under that and a file called AutoDiscover.xml under that folder, selected the AutoDiscover.xml file in IIS7 manager and set it to 302 redirect to the autodiscover.xml on the default website with my certificate.) The only difference in the article and my environment is I have the AutoDiscover IP address applied as a secondary IP address of my CAS/HT NLB cluster and the steps in the article were applied to both CAS/HT servers so that AutoDiscover can be load-balanced. My certificate is a single name (read; cheap) certificate from a public certification authority
Availability Migration You are here: Home / Outlook 2007 clients display certificate mismatch error after mailbox migrationOutlook 2007 clients display certificate mismatch error after http://exchangeserverpro.com/outlook-2007-clients-display-certificate-mismatch-error-after-mailbox-migration/ mailbox migration February 27, 2009 by Paul Cunningham 8 Comments When an Outlook 2007 user has their mailbox migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 they may start http://www.microsoftnow.com/2008/04/certficate-name-mismatch-in-outlook.html seeing a certificate mismatch error appear when launching Outlook. This problem will occur if the following conditions are true: the internal DNS namespace does not match the certificate error external DNS namespace (eg domain.local for internal and domain.com.au for external) a third party SSL certificate matching the external namespace has been applied to the IIS instance on the Client Access Server (eg cas.domain.com.au) The certificate mismatch occurs because the Autodiscover Service and/or Availability Service use the FQDN of the Exchange 2007 host in their URL autodiscover certificate error (eg https://server.domain.local/AutoDiscover/AutoDiscover.xml) but the IIS instance has an SSL certificate that does not match that name. To resolve this issue you can change the URL of the Autodiscover and Availablity services to match the name on the certificate, which you can do with the following shell commands. [PS] C:\>Set-ClientAccessServer -Identity cas.domain.local -AutoDiscoverServiceInternalUri https://cas.domain.com.au/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml [PS] C:\>Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -Identity "EWS (Default Web Site)" -InternalUrl https://cas.domain.com.au/EWS/Exchange.asmx -ExternalUrl https://cas.domain.com.au/EWS/Exchange.asmx As long as your internal clients are resolving the external name cas.domain.com.au directly to your Client Access Server this should resolve the certificate mismatch error. in your organization, and if you have installed your SSL certificates (even commercial ones) on IIS, Outlook MAPI users may receive ‘Security Alert' messages similar to the above in Outlook. The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site. This is because of the certificate that you have installed on IIS. Outlook 2007 MAPI clients use Client Access Servers for the Autodiscover service. The Autodiscovery web service (a virtual directory on the Client Access Server) is used for automatically finding the mailbox server for a given user. When the Autodiscover service is accessed by Outlook, and the name on the security certificate installed in IIS doesn't match the internal FQDN of the Client Access server (CAS), this error results. Suppose your company's public domain name is mycompany.com. You may have obtained a certificate for webmail.mycompany.com and installed on the IIS of your Client Access Server. This is correct because users on the internet will type the public name. However, the same IIS on the CAS is hosts the Autodiscover virtual directory as well and this certificate applies. Your internal domain name might be mycmpny.local and the client access server FQDN might be CAS1.mycmpny.local. Outlooks 2007 uses this internal name to connect to Autodiscovery, and hence the mismatch error. To fix this problem, open Exchange Management Shell and type the following commands: Set-ClientAccessServer -Identity CAS1 -AutodiscoverServiceInternalUri https://webmail.mycompany.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -Identity "CAS1EWS (Default Web Site)" -InternalUrl https://webmail.mycompany.com/ews/exchange.asmx Set-OABVirtualDirectory -Identity "CAS1oab (Default Web Site)" -InternalUrl https://webmail.mycompany.com/oab Set-UMVirtualDirectory -Identity "CAS1unifiedmessaging (Default Web Site)" -InternalUrl https://webmail.mycompany.com/unifiedmessaging/service.asmx Pay attention to the text in red, you will need to change it to reflect your server's running parameters. Recycle the MSExchangeAutodiscoverAppPool. Your users should no longer receive the security alert.
