click on the wrench icon in the upper right and the click ‘About Google Chrome'. The dialog box will open and it should check Google's update servers and come back and tell you http://techlifeweb.com/how-to-fix-google-chrome-update-error-3-on-windows-7/ if you have the latest version. For me, however, I received this message: "Update Server http://techdows.com/2012/04/fix-chrome-update-server-not-available-error-3.html not available (error 3)." Here is what worked to fix it for me in Windows 7: Close Google Chrome Click the Start Orb In the search box, type CMD Click on the CMD icon and you will see the command window open Type: cd %localappdata%\google\update After you press enter, you cursor should now be in your google update directory Type: GoogleUpdate.exe /RegServer chrome update Running that only took a second. Open Google chrome and check ‘About Google Chrome' again and it should now check the update servers successfully. If the above doesn't work for you, have a look here: http://is.gd/x4cOPH Posted in Uncategorized 24 Comments 24 comments or webmentions Jim says: May 12, 2011 at 2:05 pm If the above does not work, here is what I did to fix it. First uninstall google chrome (add remove programs). Then in the chrome update failed "start button" search box, type in Google updater and hit enter. When the updater comes up, under the second tab from the left "installed software", click on install more programs. check the box to install google chrome. Uncheck all the other programs that are checked (unless you want those too). It will install google chrome, but it will be an older version. When you run the older version of google chrome, it will be updating in the back ground. Then it will ask you to restart google chrome. You will now have the latest version and you will no longer get the Error 3. 🙂 Reply admin says: May 12, 2011 at 8:55 pm @Jim Thanks for the tips. Reply Peter says: May 15, 2011 at 3:52 pm Neither works. Reply admin says: May 15, 2011 at 5:06 pm @Peter, sorry the tips didn't work for you. Have you tried the forum? http://is.gd/x4cOPH Reply Bob Zima says: June 26, 2011 at 6:47 pm The real problem with this error lies with the poor programming technique of the Google team. They should NEVER allow a user error (presuming there might be a user error) to effect their browser that a uninstall//reinstall cannot correct. 3, update server not available When you install Chrome online through a small setup file, GoogleUpdate process will be installed on your computer and this process periodically checks for updates for the browser and installs them whenever available. If this process stops running or moved to other location or removed from it’s location, then you’ll get update server not available errors when you check for Chrome about dialog. Yesterday, I got “update server not available (error: 3)” for Chrome Dev. channel, let us see how I solved it. Fix Chrome’s ‘Update failed (error: 7),.. Error code=0×00000000′ Fix to “Update server not available (error :7) “ Fixing Chrome’s Update Server not available errors 1. Verify the below path for presence of Googleupdate.exe, "C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Update\GoogleUpdate.exe(or GoogleUpdateOnDemand.exe)" 2. If that process doesn't exists, then you've to uninstall and reinstall Chrome, which I've done to fix the problem. 3. If that process exists there, then you need to edit the default value for the below registry entry in registry editor and paste that path with double quotes - HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2F0E2680-9FF5-43C0-B76E-114A56E93598}\LocalServer32 Read how crucial GoogleUpdate.exe Process is for auto-updating of Chrome. You can simply say uninstalling and re installing Chrome will fix the problem, but knowing the reason for happening this error also important, isn't it? « Flash Player 11.3 Beta Adds Background Updates for Mac and Protected Mode for Firefox (Windows) » How to Disable or Turn off Windows Defender in Windows 8 2 Comments Meena Bassem April 7, 2012 @ 8:26 pm that file doesn't exist. reinstalling doesn't fix. any other suggestion?
