was hit with this little gem: Reason 442: Failed to enable virtual adapterSo Cisco VPN Client would not, under any circumstances open up a VPN connection, meaning I couldn't access my server, meaning the customer http://www.codepal.co.uk/show/Cisco_VPN_client_error_Reason_442_Failed_to_enable_virtual_adapter_on_Windows_8 who was currently complaining couldn't have their glitch fixed. At times like this my blood http://helpdesk.ugent.be/vpn/en/faq_cisco.php?id=442 goes on the boil. After a relentless search here's what I did to fix it... Make sure the device is Enabled within Device Manager Open RegEdit (Start > Run > "regedit"), and navigate down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CVirtA Double click DisplayName Then change the Value Data to remove all the text up to and including %; (including the semi-colon) Press OK and then cisco vpn close RegEdit Close down Cisco VPN Client and restart it And that's that little issue sorted. Hope that works okay for you too. Good luck :-) Comments Posted by Wladimir Quiroz on 19/12/2012 Thanks very much, you have helped me a lot. Very helpfull Posted by Hamid on 06/05/2013 Thanks :) Posted by Reggie on 29/05/2013 Dude, you are the man!Everyone had this fix of the regedit out here, but you were the only one that nailed it!Enabling the adapter was spot on! Thanks! I was ready to dump Windows 8 and go back to Windows 7, but you saved me. Posted by Erich on 06/06/2013 This did not work for me, I still get the same error, yet this seems to be the only solution that I can find on this issue. Does anybody have any other suggestions on how to fix this? Though if I run the diagnosis option on the CISCO virtual adaptor....it states that it "doesn't have a valid IP configuration" and does not fix it..... If anybody has ANY suggestions, please e-mail me at batmanssf[REMOVE]@gmail.com thank you. Posted by David CodePal on 06/06/2013 Erich, First make sure you are running the la
to make vpn connection. Error 56: The Cisco Systems, Inc. VPN Service has not been started. Please start this service and try again. Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the client. Reason 403: Unable to contact the security gateway. Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. 412: The remote peer is no longer responding. Secure VPN connection terminated locally by the client. Reason 413: User authentication failed Reason 421: Failed to establish a connection to your ISP. Cisco VPN Client displays the message "Reason 422": Lost contact with the security gateway. Check your network connection". The connection to the RoamNet VPN Gateway is no longer available. Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 429: Unable to resolve server address. Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 442: Failed to enable Virtual Adapter. Possible solutions: First check whether the version of your Cisco client is a recent version. To check this, go to 'start' - 'programmes' - Cisco Systems VPN Client' - 'VPN Client' - at the top. The correct version is 5.0.01.0600 (for Vista). If you still have version 5.0.00.0340 installed, you need to remove the old version first via 'control panel' - 'add/remove programmes'! In case an IP conflict (with another computer) causes the problem, disconnect the Cisco Client, restart your computer (a couple of minutes in between) and the problem will probably be solved. UCL solution: At the end of each step, test your connection. If it fails, proceed to the next step. 1. Open Network and Sharing Center > Open Network Connection Manager > Enable the virtual adapter (Cisco VPN Adapter) > Right-click on it and select Diagnose. Click Fix. 2. Start > Settings > Network Connections For each connection listed right-click and select Properties > Sharing (tab) and Disable connection sharing * ... 3. ...Enable Allow Local LAN Access on the Transport (tab) of connection properties. * If this option is not visible, run this command from the Command prompt (Start > Start Search/ Run) > "cmd") and reboot. Another solution: You need to be logged in as a local administrator. 1. Exit from the VPN client. 2. From the Control Panel (in classical view), select Network and Sharing Center 3. On the left-panel of the Network and Sharing Center, click on "Manage network connections". 4. When the new window opens, you are going to need to locate your two physical network adaptors. These are usually called 'Local Area Connection" and "Wireless Network connection". Because you have a VPN client, you will probably see a "Local Area Connection 2" as well.
