After the upgrade, if I try to use the Cisco VPN client to connect to a network, I get this message: Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 440: Driver Failure. Prior to the upgrade, I was able to connect with no problems. / 317 comments Updated 25 November 2015 (with amazingly high success rate!): When the IT world slowly moved to Windows 8/8.1/10, those would could not and would not move their legacy Cisco VPN software would have hit some problems while http://www.gleescape.com/posts/2917 using VPN on their newer Windows 8/8.1 machines. This is because the legacy Cisco VPN-client https://www.404techsupport.com/2015/02/kb3023607-cisco-anyconnect-vpn/ is not supported under Windows 8.1 and as the client is EOL anounced, it probably will never be supported anymore. Yet, for some reasons, there are still users (like myself) who are not able to use the newer Cisco AnyConnect, as it might not be supported by their existing VPN infrastructure or some other reasons. Faced with similar issue, I searched for possible solutions online cisco vpn and tried different ways of overcoming the issues, which is often a hit and miss affair. ( This tutorial is becoming even more robust as more and more reported success and provided additional tips to improve the process, and I have enhanced the tutorial, to make it as foolproof as possible for you. One update, KB3001652, barely made it out the door before it was recalled after hanging computers (apparently waiting for a prompt to be clicked). Other updates (MS15-011 & MS15-014) this month address security issues with Group Policy. KB3023607 addresses the lingering POODLE vulnerability and changes SSL 3.0 fallback behavior for Windows applications. It is this change that is causing issues with Cisco's current version of the AnyConnect VPN application on Windows 8.1. Upon launching Cisco AnyConnect (version 3 or version 4), you will receive an error message stating: ‘Failed to initialize connection subsystem.' Ideally, Cisco will release a new version of the VPN client to address this problem. The workaround in the meantime is to run AnyConnect in Windows 8 Compatibility Mode. The file that the AnyConnect shortcut points to is vpnui.exe. It is located in C:Program FilesCiscoCisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client or C:Program Files (x86)CiscoCisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. Right-click on vpnui.exe and choose Properties. Under the Compatibility tab of the file's properties, check the box for ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for:' and choose Windows 8 from the related drop-down. Hit OK to close the Properties window. You can now relaunch Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client and it should allow you to connect to your VPN.
