January 23, 2014 By Gareth Gudger 3 Comments 0 cisco vpn error 427 Shares Share Tweet +1 Share Reddit Secure VPN Connection terminated by Peer. Reason 433: Reason Not Specified by Peer I ran into this error recently when trying to set up a Remote Access https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11635611/error-secure-vpn-connection-terminated-peer-reason-433-reason-not-specified-peer VPN. This error could be caused by multiple problems. However, in my particular case, it was the settings under AAA authentication servers. Upon connection the VPN client would prompt for logon credentials and then immediately return this error. In my environment I was using a Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller for LDAP authentication. The VPN termination point was an older PIX 515 firewall running IOS 8.0. I was https://supertekboy.com/2014/01/23/cisco-vpn-reason-433-reason-not-specified-by-peer/ also using the latest Cisco VPN client on Windows 8.1. After some quick troubleshooting it appeared that the domain account used to query LDAP was either buried too deep in the OU structure, or, some of the OU names were causing problems (they had spaces and special characters). As a test, I moved the account back up to the root-level "Users" container. I then altered my DN settings on the firewall to reflect this change. The VPN client software connected immediately. To be fair, I was configuring Remote Access VPN on a very old PIX 515. It could be that a newer ASA firewall running the latest IOS won't have this particular issue. Either way, just something else to try if you get this error code. Lastly, here is a quick screenshot of a working AAA server configuration as well as an explanation of all the fields. Cisco AAA Authentication Server Server Group: This is purely descriptive. Call it whatever you like. Interface Name: This is the name of the interface your AAA server can be located on. In my example, an interface called INSIDE. Server Name or IP Address: The name or IP address of your AAA server. Timeout: The default is 5
found actually gives information that works: 5 Steps to make Cisco VPN work in Windows 10 I've summed this up below as it contains too https://notsomany.wordpress.com/2015/08/12/cisco-vpn-windows-10/ much information, this is what worked for me, I was getting: "Error 433 Secure https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/28529290/Error-Secure-VPN-connection-terminated-by-Peer-Reason-433-Reason-not-specified-by-peer.html VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 433: Reason not specified by peer." The likely reason is due to the DNE LightWeight Filter network client not being properly installed by the Cisco Systems VPN installer. To solve this, please try to do the following A) First, uninstall any Cisco VPN Client software you cisco vpn may have installed earlier B) Reboot your computer. C) Run winfix.exe, to ensure the DNE is properly cleaned up, as no doubt this isn't your first attempt. D) Reboot your computer again. I am not a Cisco person so please be patient. I have the error above. The windows account that does the ldap connection I recently disabled not knowing it was the account that does this for the vpn. I reenabled it but users are still getting this error. I thought for sure this was why. I have restarted the servers but still nothing? Nothing else on the config side has changed. Any ideas? Does something on the switch have to be restarted? Thank you, Karen 0 Question by:klsphotos Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google Best Solution byklsphotos This is resolved. I moved the OU the accounts were in. When I moved the OU back everything worked. I don't like where the OU is currently so I will have to figure that one out. You sort of elude to the fact that there are > 1 users having the issue but they are all using the same username and password. Is that true? Often 433 error means invalid username, or password or locked account. Try changing the password on that account and unlocking it. Then have the user try again with new password. 0 Message Author Comment by:klsphotos2014-10-01 We tried several accounts, all get the same error. The account I mentioned was the account set in the ASA for ldap was disabled. I reenabled it but they are still getting the error above. 0 LVL 12 Overall
