on our server running Windows 2003 Std edition over a dial-up Cisco VPN Client link without success !! The vpn client is running windows 2000 sp4 and is a member of our local domain. When working remotely, I logon to the domain using cached credentials. The http://www.velocityreviews.com/threads/cisco-vpn-client-unable-to-browse-domain-share.33821/ Cisco VPN client software is version 4.0.4. I have been working with a Cisco engineer to correctly configure the router for dial-up remote vpn access. When I make my vpn connection, I can ping my server by ip or name which to me, indicates that DNS is https://forums.techguy.org/threads/remote-network-access-using-vpn.85052/ working OK. The router has been configured with the correct ip for our internal DNS and WINS server. After establishing a connection, when I run ipconfig /all the results seem to be correct. My problem is that I cannot browse to any networked shared folders in cisco vpn the domain, neither can I map a networked drive using net use R: \\server\share in the windows CLI. I have tried the net use with ip address and FQDN all without success. I either get "system error 67 - the network name could not be found " or "system error 53 - the network path could not be found" Cisco are informing me that the issue is to do with my internal network and not router or vpn client configuration. However I'm not entirely convinced. I do not know enough about cisco vpn system IOS to confirm what they are saying. Can anybody give me any pointers that would enable me to share networked resources over a Cisco dial-up vpn? TIA Mark Day. Also each employee has a private folder on access to their department folder on a different server. I am trying to use a VPN to access the system from a laptop which I have recently upgraded from Win 98 to WinXp HE. The systems the county uses are Win 2000 Professional Edition. Our IT guy gave me the software to load and very simple directions to follow. Many people have used this same software and these directions to set up a VPN. The difference is they are using Win2000 and I am using XP. The Software is Cisco VPN version 3.5. It is installed and I can connect and use the AS400 however, when I try to Login to our network server, I get the following: the network connection could not be found more help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2250 system error 53 has occurred the network path was not found The IT services guy has been helping me and he is way smarter than me. He is sure it is something in XP that isn't set right. He played with it all one afternoon and we couldn't get it fixed. Since then he hasn't had time to work on it and I thought I would try the Tech Support Guy Forum to see if anyone could help. He thinks it is just some simple setting that won't let the network drivers map. With Cisco you can't manually map the drivers. I tried that. Is it an XP problem (hopefully just a simple patch I can download and my problems are solved) or is it a compatability problem. Please help !!!! Did you guys check the firewall that comes with XP ? it is enabled by default and Cisco VPN client is not compatible with that firewall. The firewall needs to be disabled prior to using your VPN client...also, how do you connect to the Internet? I think AOL 7.0 is not compatible also.... take care, D. rados, Jun 28, 2002 #2 Nick Scott Joined: Dec 11, 2001 Messages: 1,818 The key is probably that you have got XP Home Edition (HE) as it is not designed to work on networks. If you want to join any kind of larger network (especially if you are required to login to a domain) HE will not work. HE only supports peer-to-peer netw
