Cmos Checksum Error Defaults Loaded Solution
can help me with this. I have an older computer running windows 95 that started having problems keeping time. I figured I had to cmos checksum error defaults loaded diskette drive 0 seek failure replace the battery, which I did and I am now getting an error message "CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded" at this point the computer freezes and the keyboard is dead. The lights on the keyboard do flash once http://www.computing.net/answers/hardware/cmos-checksum-error-defaults-loaded-keyboard-unresponsive/84711.html during bootup, but it is never responsive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated SallyB, Feb 8, 2003 #1 Sponsor IMM Malware Specialist Joined: Feb 1, 2002 Messages: 3,259 I don't know what you will actually have to set up in that bios - but start this way. Enter the bios on the boot (possibly by hitting the delete key). When you get there load the setup defaults (possibly the optimal ones if available). On the first page https://forums.techguy.org/threads/cmos-checksum-error-computer-freezes.117780/ set the clock correctly as well as setting the drives auto and indicating which type of floppy you have. If there is an option in the PnP/PCI section to "reset configuration data" (or update ESCD or NVRAM) - turn it on. If there is an entry in that same section which is labeled "PnP aware OS installed" (or similar) - set it to yes. Now SAVE and exit. Does it boot more normally now? To know what settings should really be set in the bios - I'd need a hardware installed list as well as the moptherboard make and model. If the above doesn't get you booting - you could try removing the cables from the HD and booting with a floppy. There is a possiblility that the drive was installed with a older type of DDO (dynamic drive overlay) which required setting certain heads, cylinders etc. for it - but let's cross that bridge if we come to it. IMM, Feb 8, 2003 #2 SallyB Thread Starter Joined: Feb 8, 2003 Messages: 4 Sorry but that doesn't work because I can't enter the bios on the boot - the keyboard doesn't work either. After it gets to the error message the entire computer is frozen. Even during the boot up before it gets to the message the keyboard is dead. SallyB, Feb 8, 2003 #3 IMM Malware Specialist Joined: Feb

A few days ago I started up my computer and then after I had been on the internet for a while it just rebooted itself. So I kept cmos checksum error starting it up then when everything had loaded it just kept rebooting. Now it doesn't even load up it goes to a black screen that says something about CMOS checksum error - Defaults Loaded. I've searched for other people with this problem and the responses tend to be to do something with the BIOS (sorry, I'm not very technical. I don't even know what the BIOS are) but my problem is my keyboard has now become unresponsive that I can't get it into anywhere to change the settings. When I start up all the lights come on for a second (num lock, caps lock and scroll lock) but then go off and my keyboard becomes unresponsive. Then when I try to reboot the computer from the power button it doesn't even start up now! (It's just going from bad to worse) Like it turns on (I think it's the fan that makes a noise?) but nothing happens the screens black, it doesn't even make that beeping noise it usually does when it's just starting to start up. I have to wait for a while (like a good few hours or even a day) before I can try and start
