If this happens, enter the BIOS Setup and press F9 to load factory defaults.Do not power down the system during the BIOS update process. Given the systems age, this is also a possible reason for your problem (although usually batteries last a bit longer than 3 years - perhaps 5). You're best bet is downloading your motherboard manual from the board makers website (or possibly even on the CDROM that came with the motherboard) and following the instructions in there, change the battery for one of the correct type. When you reboot, you'll have to go into the BIOS setup again and load default values and save out of there. As it's not an Intel branded board, if you're still having is

Go download/find the manual for your motherboard and you are looking for something called CMOS reset. They include: 1. CMOS Battery may not be functioning properly. The battery life may have expired. (it's probably this) 2. The user or a virus may have updated the BIOS. 3. The computer may not have been shut down properly e.g. shutting off the computer’s main power without first shutting down the computer (MS Windows requires the computer to be shut down before the power is shut off).
