KEYBOARD. Everything started after PROPERLY removing my USB drive from one of the front ports of my PC (Vista Ultimate). The mouse and the keyboard suddenly http://superuser.com/questions/72696/keyboard-error-or-no-keyboard-present stopped working and I had to restart the PC. Please consider that my USB keyboard is just PERFECT. I've already connected to another working PC and it does work. This is what I've already tried by now: Turning the PC off and disconnecting EVERYTHING from the back. Disconnecting the two SATA hard drives from the motherboard. Pushing the "Reset BIOS" button in the motherboard and waiting a long time (are 12 hours enough?) before reconnecting and rebooting. Removing the BIOS battery and waiting a long time before putting it back and resetting the BIOS. Replacing the BIOS battery with a new one (plus resetting the BIOS). I just don't know what else to disconnect, reset or replace. Maybe me? o.O Please help!!! usb keyboard bios checksum share|improve this question asked Nov 19 '09 at 15:56 user18641 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Have you tried all the USB ports on your computer? Maybe you blew out one (or all) of the USB controllers. I would connect a PS2 keyboard if you have one (or borrow one) so you can boot and check the status of your USB ports. share|improve this answer answered Nov 19 '09 at 17:08 Jack B Nimble 20528 Thanks for your reply. Check the cable between your motherboard and harddisk. Has it been inserted correctly and in the right orientation? Also check that the jumper settings on the boot disk are set to 'master'. If your motherboard supports ATA-133 you can take advantage of the faster interface by using cmos checksum error an 80-pin cable to connect the harddisk, instead of the more common 40-pin connector. -Keyboard error or no keyboard present Before the advent of USB keyboards PCs were typically supplied with PS2 keyboards (not PlayStation2). You should find there's an option to turn off keyboard errors in the system BIOS. If you disable the halt on keyboard errors, I expect you'll find the system will boot and discover the USB keyboard once the OS has loaded. Otherwise try a PS2 keyboard. -CMOS checksum error -defaults loaded It's not unusual to see BIOS checksum errors after replacing a CMOS battery. I can press f1 to continue and DEL to enter setup, but my keyboard with a ps2 connection has partial control with only the delete, escape, scroll lock, and numblock keys working, at least to my knowledge. I can press delete to get into the bios, but i cannot control anything from there. I have also tried another keyboard with a usb connection and got the same results meaning that the problem does not lie with the keyboard. To fix the problem, i have replaced the bios battery and also reset the CMOS using the jumpers. This obviously didnt work as i would not be posting this. I know that if i can somehow communicate with the bios, i can set it to stop "halt on error".I am currently using a p5n- d ASUS motherboard and from what ive read my other specs shouldent be necessary, though if you would like them i will gladly provide them. Please offer any suggestions before I consider replacing the motherboard. The default settings for your motherboard gos for the standard PS/2 keyboard.Don't use a reset switch, if you system has one. You must power off fully and power on to start the BIOS power on self test.Make sure you put the battery in the right way. The right battery is a 3 volt battery. I made sure to turn the power off, unplug the power cord, hold power button, and take measures to not shock my motherboard. After that i reseated the battery, th
