better, we have included an analogy: Joe is your mIRC, an IRC Client Mary is the IRC server (as hexchat connection timed out are Jane, Helga and Kyoko, all of whom work at the same place (network) Mary does). The switchboard operator where Mary works is the random server on a network (usually irc.dal.net). In most

cases in our scenario, Joe is trying to call Mary via telephone. The solution, of course, is to dial up Mary or (Jane, or Helga, etc.) directly. This means the IRC server is unreachable for everybody. Most probably the admins have tweaked their DNS records to point to the non-existant IP number 255.255.255.255 to detour a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack. Better try a specific IRC server on that network or another network! (When they set the server IP address to be 255.255.255.255 you will get the error "Can't assign requested address". When they set it to 127.0.0.1 you will get the error "Connection refused" because you are trying to connect to yourself as the server. If they disable the address altogether (set it to nothing) you will get the error "Unable to reso

Quit Messages - What Do They Mean? Written by Raphsody We all have been 'thrown' off the network at one time or another. Everytime that happens you get a quit message saying why. Connection reset by peer Many times when a user disconnects because of an error, a 'connection reset by peer' is included. This means when the user quit, the connection was reset by the server. This immediately disconnects http://www.ircbeginner.com/opvinfo/h-quits-info.html any ghost that may be present and allows the user to connect to the server once again. Ping timeout Well here you simply stop talking and the server gets no !PONG response to its !PING and so you are disconnected. Fail Buffer Not common but it happens. What you are saying is something the server just can't handle at the moment. It can be rejoining the network or getting flooded, when you at this moment sends a string of data (text) the server cannot buffer that and you are gone. Max sendq exceeded This is an old configuration on some servers that holds a max amount of data you can send during one session. This means that the server can't relay the text you sent to it and the server disconnects you to make you start a new session. Excess flood No need to explain I believe, but I'll do it anyway: Too much, Too fast, Too big, You simply sends too much and the server starts to dislike you and finally throws you off. Write Error A write error occurs when a server cannot successfully write to a user's client. When the server receives information, it usually responds with information of its own. When the server receives an error when writing to a client, it then disconnects the user, resulting in a write er
the user quit, the connection was reset by the server. This immediately disconnects any ghost that may be present (which is a good thing) and allows the user to connect to the server once again using the same https://classijazz.wordpress.com/help/error-messages-and-how-to-avoid-them/ nickname. Often this is caused by a windows error, and a win error code message may https://wiki.swiftirc.net/wiki/Connection_issues be seen. If you get a windows error message, record the error number, help may be available as to how to prevent that error. Other times the reason for the disconnect is unknown. Common culprits are Omenserve and to a lesser extent Autoget, or conflicts between them and the current mIRC you are running. Any error code information received should be connection reset noted, without further information there is no magical bandaid for helping this. Ping timeout: The server gets no !PONG response to its !PING and disconnects the connection. One solution to this is to get a better ISP. This can also happen because of traffic between you and the server, which u cant control except by changing servers, or it could be your processor bogging down causing the computer to reply too late. If thats the case and you connection reset by intermittently freeze, you may need to close applications, reboot, get more ram, upgrade processor or check in taskmanager for a program that is using too much resources and restart that offender. This can also cause either read or write errors as discussed below. Fail Buffer: Not common but it happens. What you are saying is something the server just can't handle at the moment. It can be rejoining the network or getting flooded, when you at this moment send a string of data (text) the server cannot buffer. If this happens, you are disconnected. This is a server side error, rare, and nothing you can do to prevent unless you run mesa2 or another of the undernet servers. The infamous n dreaded Max sendQ exceeded error: Sendq (Send queue) is the amount of data that is allowed to be pending (or stored) by the server. Each server has a set limit of data allowed to be queued for each user or client. This is done to assure that the server's resources are distributed equally amongst all users. This quit message is fairly rare, and is often caused by network or internet problems that prevent data from reaching a user. People with slow Internet connections may get disconnected this way when requesting a large amount of data from the server. If the amount of data stored in the sendq (or bu

For an extended explanation on these errors, please visit IRC Errors [10049] Can't assign requested address This means the address you are trying to connect to does not resolve to an accessible IP. To combat this issue, try connecting directly to another server. The server list can be found here. [10050] Network is down or [10051] Network unreachable These errors occur on if the destination network is down. [10052] Network dropped connection on reset The server that is hosting the IRCd, or the network it's on has, crashed, rebooted or been reset. Just reconnect in a few minutes. [10053] Software cause connection abort There is an issue with your client attempting to connect/respond to the IRC server. One cause for this may be the use of SSL. Connect to the network on a non-SSL port to attempt to combat this issue. [10054] Connection reset by peer Connection reset by peer is a tough one because it can be caused by so many things. In all cases, the server determines that the socket is no longer good and closes it from its side. [10060] Connection timed out A connect or send request failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time. (The timeout period is dependent on the communication protocol.) [10061] Connection refused Users mainly receive this error because of a firewall issue. If you connect to the wrong port or a port that your firewall is blocking, you will receive this issue. Attempting to connect on port 8080 (to the servers that listen on it) will most likely fix this issue. The servers page can be found here. [10065] No route to host Error This normally means you are not properly connected to the Internet. Your Windows cannot find out how or where to
