the problem could range from harmless things like inability to read old record versions (not needed to anyone anyway) or broken indexes (could harm your queries and primary/foreign key constraints) to corrupt data. Reasons for this can be various, from bad RAM module in the server, malfuncion of hard disk drive, to bug in filesystem or in Firebird engine. It's a common consequence of power failure and forced writes being off at the same time. Also, there http://forums.devshed.com/firebird-sql-development/509051-corrupted-database-help-gfix-gbak-error-idea-post2786383.html are known cases when suspend to disk/hibernate messes up the filesystem cache for the database file. In any case, make sure you stop the server, make a copy of database file and do all the diagnostics on the copy. GFIX can help you fix some of the errors and get database to a state where you can http://www.firebirdfaq.org/faq226/ back it up. Internal gds software consistency check (cannot find tip page (165)) Error description Database cannot be opened using Firebird or InterBase engine, and the following message appears: Internal gds software consistency check (cannot find tip page (165)) Abnormal shutdown or physical database file corruption. Transaction inventory page has been lost (TIP). Corruption area can vary from several pages to the whole database, so additional investigation needed. Reason (why it happened?) The most probable reasons are abnormal server shutdown (using Reset button), wrong backup approach or backup tools. On Windows XP such corruption can be caused by "System Restore" feature for "gdb" files. Recovery process First, the database should be scanned with FirstAID Diagnostician. If FirstAID does not warn about serious corruption, corruption can be fixed with the full version of FirstAID. In t

Past experience indicates that this is the rough amount of time needed, and also the fact that we can most probably recover your data in a reasonable period of time. These notes can help you to estimate the possible cost of using our database recovery services. Should you require our services to recover a database that has a problem, the cost for doing such work is as follows: $1250.00/5 hours, 5 hours minimum. Then $150.00 per hour until the repair is completed. The possible reasons geting the errors detailed below are based on our experience and knowledge, however we cannot guarentee that you haven't found a new bug or problem that we are not familiar with. Major Errors Internal gds software consistency check (cannot find tip page (165)) The required Transaction Inventory Page is corrupt and the database cannot be opened. It is expected in this instance that neither gbak nor gfix will be able to repair your database (except in the case of a Read Only database). Recovery Process: Analysis of lost and damaged data pages, generation of new transaction inventory pages instead of the lost and damaged ones, then a database check followed by a test backupand restore. Time: 2 hours+. Probable % of recovered data: 99%. Database file appears corrupt. Wrong page type. Page NNN is of wrong type (expected X, found Y). This error can indicate a number of problems. But typically there are missing pages in the database, or the page that is being accessed is not the expected page type. For example, if the expected page type is 5, it can mean that some data may have been corrupted within a table. Such a corruption may prevent a sucessful backup backup or may make the table unavailable to the database. Recovery Process: Analysis of sequence of pages in the database, correction of invalid links in the sequence,
