As an Internet marketer and someone who google 404 error fix specializes in SEO, it always amazes me how much uncertainty revolves around Google rankings. One week, Google is revealing the secret that having google crawl errors pages don't exist a secure website will influence rankings. By secure they mean having your website labeled "HTTPS". Then in the same statement, Google decides to be so kind as to also let everyone know that a secure site is crawl errors checker helpful for your rankings, but it is a very weak signal in their ranking algorithm. So as you can see, we don't really get much direction from the horses mouth. However, when we do get some insight it is very important we share it with the community because the only way to better understand SEO is to learn from the experiences of others. A few weeks ago I decided to develop a new website for the

domain octatools.com (you are currently here!). The previous site was outdated and frankly, needed to be modernized. I love building websites. It is fun to pick the theme, start building out the pages, writing the content and setting up the SEO foundation. When working on these types of projects time becomes irrelevant. Although it is fun, you need to understand the pitfalls when pushing a new site live because you can run into issues down the road. This is exactly what happened to me. When I pushed the site live and took down the firewall that was blocking the general public and also Google from seeing my website, some of the pages weren't blocked. I assumed it would take some time for Google to recrawl and index my site because there hadn't been much activity on it for almost a year. Turns out I was wrong and the result was a bunch of pages being indexed that weren't supposed to be. So I went ahead and made note of all the pages in order to set redirects in place. The redirects all checked out, but some of them were obviously creating a glitch for Google. Editor's note: Howdy, Moz community! An updated version of this post for 2016 and beyond has been published here: How to Fix Crawl Errors in Google Search Console. Feel free to read this post, too; together they'll help you master Google Search Console and defeat your crawl errors. Looking at 12,000 crawl errors staring back at you in Webmaster Tools can make your hopes of eradicating those errors seem like an insurmountable task that will never be accomplished. The key is to know which errors are the most crippling to your site, and which ones are simply informational and can be brushed aside so you can deal with the real meaty problems. The reason it’s important to religiously keep an eye on your errors is the impact they have on your users and Google’s crawler. Having thousands of 404 errors, especially ones for URLs that are being indexed or linked to by other pages pose a potentially poor user experience for your users. If they are landing on multiple 404 pages in one session, their trust for your site decreases and of course leads to fru

You check the "Crawl Errors" report in Google Search Console (formerly known as Google Webmaster Tools) and you see so many crawl errors that you don't know where to start. Loads of 404s, 500s, "Soft http://www.rebelytics.com/crawl-errors-google-search-console/ 404s", 400s, and many more… Here's how I deal with big amounts of crawl http://searchengineland.com/google-webmaster-tools-crawl-errors-reports-now-showing-errors-on-final-redirect-url-182296 errors. If you don't find a solution to your problem in this article, feel free to leave me a comment at the bottom of this page. I normally reply within a couple of days. So let's get started. First of all: Don't panic! Crawl errors are something you normally can't avoid and they don't necessarily have an immediate negative crawl errors effect on your website's SEO performance. Nevertheless, they are a problem you should tackle. Having a small amount of crawl errors in Google Search Console is a positive signal for Google, as it reflects a good overall website health. Also, if the Google bot encounters less crawl errors on your page, users are also less likely to see website and server errors. First, mark all crawl errors as fixed This may seem like a google webmaster tools stupid piece of advice at first, but it will actually help you tackle your crawl errors in a more structured way. When you first look at your crawl errors report, you might see hundreds and thousands of crawl errors from way back when. It will be very hard for you to find your way through these long lists of errors. My approach is to mark everything as fixed and then start from scrap: Irrelevant crawl errors will not show up again and the ones that really need fixing will soon be back in your report. So, after you have cleaned up your report, here is how to proceed: Check your crawl errors report once a week Pick a fixed day a week and go to your crawl errors report. Now you will find a manageable amount of crawl errors and you will always know that they have recently been encountered by the Google bot, because they weren't there last week. Here's how to deal with what you find in your crawl errors report once a week: The classic 404 crawl error This is probably the most common crawl error across websites and also the easiest to fix. For every 404 error the Google bot encounters, Google lets you know where it is linked from: Another website, another URL o

SUBSCRIBE Google Webmaster Tools Crawl Errors Reports Now Showing Errors On Final Redirect URL Barry Schwartz on January 22, 2014 at 9:03 am More Google's John Mueller announced on the Google Webmaster blog this morning that the Google Webmaster Tools team has updated the crawl errors report to show errors on the final URL of the redirect, as opposed to the origin URL of the redirect. What this means is that Google is now showing the errors on the final destination URL instead of the redirecting URL. This should make it easier for webmasters to diagnose issues in their crawl error report, because it makes it easier for the webmaster to locate the page with the error. In the past, Google would have reported the error observed at the end under URL A. Now, Google is reporting the error on URL B, as illustrated in the redirect graphic above. The errors will also be visible in the total error counts for some websites.
