After this, system hangs at " CRC Error - System Halted" everytime when i try to boot into desktop. At first i thought it was desktop corrupted, so i pressed "ESC" the Grub there and select "Recovery Mode", but the system still hangs at "CRC Error". So i was thinking it was the time to reinstall and when i tried to run "Kubuntu Desktop 8.10 without installing" option at system boot up, suprisingly it is still "CRC Error - System Halted". What's wrong with it?? What should i do? Is it possible fix it without reinstall the system, because i have configured it as a Web server and FTP server, and this took me for 2 weeks for figured out how to configure them. Both HDDs have bootable flags and grub setup in MBR. If I only start up with sda, linux boots. If I only start up with sdb, grub shows up and says Decompressing Linux... crc error -- http://serverfault.com/questions/150761/grub-crc-error-after-decompressing-linux System halted I have reinstalled grub a few times now but still nothing. It goes like this: /dev/md0 contains /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 find /boot/grub/stage1 shows (hd0,0) (hd0,1) The line that boots Linux shows: root (hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.26-1-686 initrd /initrd.img-2.6.26-1-686 This kind of renders my "redundant" array useless. Any clues? update: just to mention, these are 2 different HDDs, sda is 320gb and sdb is 400gb. Both are WD and both have exactly the same partitions, cloned using sfdisk. grub share|improve this question edited Jun 13 '10 at 10:30 asked Jun 13 '10 at 1:25 w00t 5171926 Is this a new installation or has it been working for some time ? –Hangin on in quiet desperation Jun 13 '10 at 10:41 I added the 2nd hard drive last week, but didn't had to test it until yesterday. –w00t Jun 13 '10 at 17:12 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote If you built the raid correctly and it fully synced then chances are high that you have some bad sectors on sdb. What does the output of cat /proc/mdstat say about the device ? share|improve this answer answ

"Uncompressing Linux... crc error -- System halted". I've also tried this using a Linux mint live cd, same error. Is this something related to the MB? ubuntu motherboard share|improve this question asked Apr 3 '11 at 20:30 Crackerjack 236134 add crc error linux a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote According to this the kernel doesn't like itself. Based on what you've said, I feel like your hard drive might be to blame. Is it old? Do you have a spare to test on? share|improve this answer answered Apr 3 '11 at 20:33 n0pe 7,048145087 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote If you can, try the live cd on another computer, or a different cd rom in the same computer. If you can't do either of those, I'd try installing from a flash drive. I think that a flakey cd drive is more likely than the motherboard. You can also try a memory test, live cd here or some Ubuntu live cds have it on there. Motherboard problems could in theory be an issue too, but I've never seen it, so I'd try the above first. share|improve this answer answered Apr 3 '11 at 21:28 emgee 4,0291426 add a comment| You must log in to answer this question.
