However I want to see if there's some general rule of thumb which can be applied to percentage of CRC errors. Is there some particular point where the additional errors mean you're losing more from the additional errors than you gain from the better latency? Dropping packets will kill throughput a lot faster than any potential increase in link speed. That being said, though, the impact of dropped packets varies depending on the type of traffic you're pumping through. Certain kinds of traffic (gaming, voice, real time video, etc.) are a lot less forgiving of packet drops than normal web browsing, for example. After many tests I am getting 1/5th or less the bandwidth that I should and I started looking into it. It seems I have high packet loss and it seems to be between my modem and the ISP. (As far as I can tell anyways) What can I do to decrease packet loss and improve speed? Update After moving the modem to a different wall jack, the attenuation has improved and I haven't seen http://superuser.com/questions/863298/what-can-i-do-to-improve-dsl-connection-stability any crc errors. (Yet) My speed has improved about double, however I am still not getting the 45mbps that I should be getting (only getting 8). networking router packet-loss share|improve this question edited Jan 15 '15 at 22:07 asked Jan 11 '15 at 6:57 Tyler Scott 13311 1 You contact your ISP this sort of behavior cannot be solved by you. –Ramhound Jan 11 '15 at 8:54 I am going to contact my ISP to see what they think and see if they can fix the issue. –Tyler Scott Jan 12 '15 at 19:46 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote CRC errors are bad, and the fact that those are near end means they are errors the modem picks up on the incoming signal - meaning that the frames coming into the modem are damaged in some way and the modem must request they be resent, which slows down your connection. Upstream margins are also getting a bit high which can lead to instability. You didn't show the rate at which the modem is synced - that can help with diagnosis. Mostly what this looks like is line trouble. The first thing you want to test is a connection directly to your NID. Find the box where it comes into the house of the street - there will be a test jack on the circuit that your DSL is on. You migh

I had enough eventually and called my ISP after using the telephone would cause the adsl to crc error fail on demand BUT not until I had connected to the test socket and changed the ADSL filter. This made no difference.Several engineer visits and the ISP is trying to convince me all is well, though they haven't closed the call so I'm not convinced they are sure they have fixed it themselves.I was wondering if someone could comment on the stats I have included below, they don't look too healthy too me but crc error rate I'm no expert.I have tried using DSLstats but it isn't returning anything for my routerADSL line statusConnection informationLine stateConnectedConnection time0 days, 1:17:34Downstream1,867 KbpsUpstream440 KbpsADSL settingsVPI/VCI0/38TypePPPoAModulationITU-T G.992.3Latency typeInterleavedNoise margin (Down/Up)3.7 dB / 13.6 dBLine attenuation (Down/Up)67.5 dB / 41.6 dBOutput power (Down/Up)0.0 dBm / 12.9 dBmLoss of Framing (Local)283Loss of Signal (Local)43Loss of Power (Local)0FEC Errors (Down/Up)28923 / 4294967273CRC Errors (Down/Up)1227 / 2147480000HEC Errors (Down/Up)nil / 9Error Seconds (Local)16765 Logged Growing old is mandatory; Growing up is optional roseway Administrator Senior Kitizen Posts: 37901 Penguins CAN fly Re: ADSL acceptable FEC error rate? « Reply #1 on: August 02, 2013, 07:02:39 PM » Unfortunately those error figures don't make a lot of sense. They are probably cumulative since the router was last booted, and don't relate to the reported connection time. So it's difficult to assess them realistically. If you reboot the router it should reset the error values, then you can see how they increase over time. Also, you really need to monitor the SNR margin at least, to get a better indication of what's happening. What model of router is it?
