CRC Recovery Tool? Discussion in 'Hardware' started by J8son, Dec 19, 2010. J8son Corporal I have three internal SATA drives made by hard disk crc error recovery Western Digital (2x 320gigs and a 400gig). In trying to backup data between

drives I'm getting the dreaded "Cyclic Redundancy Error" I'm sure these drives are failing and I plan to replace cannot initialize disk crc error them with a single 1TB SATA drive. However, I must do all I can to recover these files first. I've read that it's sometimes possible to work around a CRC error data error cyclic redundancy check external hard drive as it's simply a mathematical algorithm. Can someone recommend a reliable data recovery tool? I'm willing to purchase a good pro level tool for the future. Thanks! J8son, Dec 19, 2010 #1 mcsmc MajorGeek Hi Have you tried Unstoppable Copier? It's good for damaged optical disks as well as the issue you're mentioning. You can download it here: http://www.roadkil.net/program.php?ProgramID=29 Best part? It's

free. Personally, while some software is worth paying for, to a large extent I feel like I'm wasting money since almost every software license is worthless as soon as a new version of the paid software comes out. I try to stick to open source or freeware for most of my needs. mcsmc, Dec 19, 2010 #2 gman863 MajorGeek If your new 1TB drive is a Seagate, you might be able to disc cloning using DiscWizard, a free Seagate utility. It usually comes packaged on CD with Seagate retail boxed drives or (if you buy a bare Seagate drive) you can download it free at Seagate's website. I've used Disc Wizard many times; however not for combining three drives onto one. Prior to cloning the drives, you'll likely have format the new drive into three partitions. If interested in this option, I'd go here to download the program and read the instructions to see if DiscWizard will work for what you're doing: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.j...toid=d9fd4a3cdde5c010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD Remember: This will only work with Seagate brand drives. Hope this helps gman863, Dec 19, 2010 #3 J8son Corporal gman863 said: ↑

all likelihood, itwas the cd itself that was problematic, not the system, player or other hardware. The error received when trying to copy the file was a cyclic redundancycheck (CRC) error. In fact, this is the http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/best-crc-recovery-tool.229344/ most common error encountered with cd/dvd access or copying problems and I knew that such a problem was often caused by a dirty or scratched disc, so I examined the surface of the cd and just as I suspected, it was marked. It had a distinct smudgeprinton it. I cleaned the whole cd and after doing so, voila! ,I was able to copy the needed file from the cd to my hard drive.I informed http://www.percontra.net/archive/2corruptcddvdrecovery.htm her that the problem was fixed and when I told her it was just a matter of cleaning the disc, she was surprised that the solutionwas so simple and never thought such a confoundingproblem could be caused by a less than pristine condition cd. The fact is that cds and dvds can be very finicky. Just one speck of dirt or a hairline scratch can cause problems in accessing your data or the disc itself. These marks can make it difficult for the drive's laser beam to properly read the disc. Fortunately, dirty discs can be cleaned. Scratches can be more problematic, though, in many cases they can be repaired. With scratches, the severity of the problemdepends muchon the type and location of the scratch.Scratches that run across the disc or along the track, as opposed to those that run in a straight line from rim to center, can be the most difficult to repair. These type of problems are unique to cd and dvd media because the surfaces of the discs are bare and exposed, offering no protection against dust, finger prints, smudge, dirt and scratches. An exception is most dvd-ram discs which are encased in protective cartridges. Hard drives are enclosed in a tough metal shell and even cheap floppy discs are protected with

Published on Sep 11, 2013http://www.winrarrepair.net/file-crc-... - Hello Everyone,This video will show you simple 4-step procedure to extract data from inaccessible RAR file, after encountering CRC errors; which may occur due to bad sectors in the storage disk, virus infection during download or transmission errors. As some people recommend, you may try the Repair tool provided in Winrar under Tools section. However, I didn't find this tool efficient data error cyclic enough to repair the CRC error affected archives. It didn't gave any errors when I tried, but my RAR file was in the same state of corruption. So, what I suggest is, you must try any third-party repair utilities available on the internet.Subscribe my channel to view more about repair process of different types of files. This means NTFS has a CRC for the file. I expect the offending block/sector can be known, or at least guessed. I also expect that "wrong data" can be read from the disk. If the bits of "wrong data" were inverted one by one, by brute force we could find the correct data. A file could thus be recovered using statistics and brute-forcing bits to match the CRC. My question is, does any software do this kind of thing? Any way I could do it (I'd be happy enough to get the CRC, the drive's "wrong" data, know which is the offending block/sector there, and write a script to brute it myself, if relevant directions are given). By the way, this is a mechanical HDD. Edit: After taking a look with hex editors and such, I noticed that a bad block appears as garbage, such as filled with zeros or a copy of the last block (this seems to depend on the program), so in order to get the "real data" that is corrupted, we'd have to disable some hardware-correction that refuses to read a block which is bad. I believe this is called ECC. Also, I expect that if just a few bits are marking a block as "bad", then some 32-bit checksum from
