When I look at the statistics in the RAlink wireless utility it shows large numbers of frames received with CRC errors [5 to 10% of all receive frames]. I suspect this is why I am only getting 8Mbps [when coping http://forums.wi-fiplanet.com/showthread.php?7082-Poor-Wifi-Perforamnce-receive-CRC-errors a large file from the laptop to a PC ethernet connected to the router. Furthermore this issue occurs when the router and laptop are next to each other despite good link quality, signal strenghs 1 & 2 and low noise. I have tried all channels, turned off encryption, forced to G only mode etc all that makes little difference 2. I upgraded my Windows 2000 SP4 laptop to V1110 drivers but this made no difference. I haven't upgraded the router yet. 3. This issue doesn't occur when I forced the setup into 802.11B mode but then I only get 4Mbps. What could the issue be ? Kind Regards ps: I downloaded Netstumbler hoping it would verify the ralink utility link, signal strenght and noise stats but Netstumbler won't show noise on my adapter [NDIS 5.1] Reply With Quote 12-31-2006,08:34 AM #2 M/Q View Profile View Forum Posts Registered User Join Date Nov 2003 Posts 5,553 First, checking throughput by copying a file is not a very accurate method. You maybe correct, but it is still better to make sure by either using a FTP server client combination or Qcheck. http://www.ixiacom.com/solutions/display?skey=qcheck Second, I am not completely familiar with RaLink, but I was under the impression that it added its own drivers to the wireless adapter. If that is true then the device may not be using the proprietary MIMO technology. Third, wh
received with CRC error Discussion in 'Hardware' started by subgeeky, Jul 30, 2008. subgeeky Private E-2 I have a Mercury USB wireless http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/frames-received-with-crc-error.165768/ adapter and it’s been working fine for over a year. Now I’m http://www.tamos.com/htmlhelp/commwifi/errors.htm having problems with it, I can’t access the Internet. The statistics are horrible, nearly all the frames are received with CRC errors, yet transmissions are fine. I have normal signal, over 80% link quality, and <20% noise. What is going on? I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled TCP/IP protocol. I get the crc error same thing plugging it into 2 desktops, one is Windows 2000 and the other XP Home. Since the problem seem to be receiving, I doubt uninstall and reinstall the software will work, have reinstalled driver, rt73 many times to no avail. subgeeky, Jul 30, 2008 #1 wakaru Private E-2 Hi! I have an edimax, with rt73 too, and i have the same crc error wireless problem. I think that should be a problem with the device. It only happens when i do an intense use of the net, like watching a movie or downloading something. it starts well, but after some time, it starts to receive wrong packets. If i shutdown the device and restart after a while, it works well (not perfectly, but i can navigate again). did you find a solution? I'll simply ask for another card and i'll tell you. wakaru, Feb 12, 2009 #2 PEBKAC Private First Class Grasping at straws here but... Are there any other wireless networks nearby running on the same channel? Have you tried changing channels? PEBKAC, Feb 12, 2009 #3 KingSteve MajorGeek try a different router and/or wireless adapter if changing wireless channel doesnt help. KingSteve, Feb 12, 2009 #4 wakaru Private E-2 Sorry geeks, but i think that the problem is due to a bad hacker, trying to connect to the network. the wrong crc is because he was replicating my packets... At least i think that. I changed the channel and everything was ok until he reali

The last component, FCS, is used to check the integrity of the packet on the receiving end. The receiving end computes the CRC value over the received frame and compares the computed value with the actual four bytes at the end of the packet. If the values mismatch, the packet is considered damaged. The way CommView for WiFi handles such corrupted frames depends on the user-defined settings. By default, such frames are ignored by the application, with the following exceptions: · They increment the overall packet and byte counters. · They increment the CRC Error counter on the Channels tab. · They are included in the Packet Size chart in the Statistics window. Damaged frames are not counted in other charts and tables for the obvious reason: No part of a frame with the wrong CRC value is credible. It may have a completely wrong IP address, data payload, etc., although in real life such frames bear a resemblance to the original. For the same reason CRC Errors cannot be attributed to a particular wireless AP or station, as it's impossible to determine the real sender's MAC address. Nevertheless, the user may want
