This file stops my backup so I tried to delete it. Cannot do so. I've forgotten the syntax for maneuvering to and deleting a file in DOS. The file resides on a second internal data drive, G, not the C drive. Could anyone tell me how to get rid of it? There's a random picture on my computer (from a series of pics I took) and for some reason, it won't let me delete this one picture. When I try to I get the following error: Cannot delete [filename]: Data error (cyclic redundancy check) What's causing this and should I be worried? __________________ Talent, crc error vigor, drive... Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: UK Nov 6th, 2006, 08:11 PM CRC is basically a method of determining whether a file is free from errors. It's strange that a CRC error file crc error would prevent you from deleting a file but I would not worry about it too much. Unfortunatly I cannot suggest much more than booting into safemode and trying to delete the file again. Alternativly there could be a command line switch which disables CRC while performing the delete operation. __________________ Quote: Originally Posted by bigtimecow japan MetalMilitia View Public Profile Send a private message to MetalMilitia Find all posts by MetalMilitia #3 soundtest TERRIBLE BEAT Join Date: Apr 2001 Location: SHANGHAI Nov 6th, 2006, 09:04 PM Do you get this error just in Explorer or if you try to delete it from the command line too? soundtest View Public Profile Send a private message to soundtest Visit soundtest's homepage! I can't view the picture anymore either, not that that's important since i was trying to delete it along with a bunch of other pics. Still, I can't remove this temporary directory until I'm able to delete that pic. __________________ Talent, vigor, drive... You'll eat peanut butter

I've read other posts, and as far as I can tell, no one really knows. I keep seeing 1) submit a bug report (which I did, I think, on MS Connect) and 2)turn off duplication, AV software etc. I've done all that....I tried to delete them using cmd prompt (del d:\shares\users\offending folder) and it says "Are you sure Y/N?" So, I type Y (YES I'm sure!), but the file (folder in this case) is still there. I tried running CHKDSK on a few disks in cmd prompt, but I was being asked some questions I didn't understand. Something about something will be lost, so I said N. I have 5 files that are reporting this error in the same folder (they happen to be VIA drivers, but I figure that is irrelavant). I JUST WANT TO DELETE THEM. HELP? Sunday, August 17, 2008 9:44 AM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote legierk wrote: Well, that's good advice kariya, but how do I do that? (look through the mount points) Just browse through D:\DE\shares\[sharename] and C:\fs\x\DE\shares\[sharename] from the server desktop (where x is a random letter or number). For example, if you have a file in \\server\videos called test.avi that is causing a problem, then the full path to the actual file will either be D:\DE\shares\videos\test.avi or C:\fs\x\DE\shares\videos\test.avi (again, where x is a random letter or number). So if you found the full path to the actual file was C:\fs\1M\DE\shares\videos\test.avi, then you would want to run chkdsk on 1M. The command for that would be: Code Snippet chkdsk C:\fs\1M /r Just remember, don't change anything while you're looking through the folders! (I hate to keep harping on it, but it's essential to get that point across so you don't accidentally compound your problems. ) Sunday, August 17, 2008 5:09 PM Reply | Quote Moderator All replies 0 S
