I went to Services, and MSSQL$WSUS said that it is “started” and set to “Automatic”. The SQLAgent$WSUS is set to “Automatic” but it does not say it is started. I restarted the computer, and everything stays the same. This server has more than one HDD. The C: drive has the MSSQL executable files, while our G: drive has the MSSQL$SUS folder and SUSDB.dat file. I had this server running for a month with no problem, I have no idea what changed. Please help! Thanks Randy 0 Back to top of the page up there ^ MultiQuote Reply #2 Rob Dunn Advanced Member Group: Advisory Members Posts: 619 Joined: 06-Jun-05 P

This is typically a natural manifestation of the SCW having too much work to do, but given this particular message could also be a reflection of an actual fault in the database itself. First thing to do is see ifyou can complete these options in the Server Cleanup Wizard as independent steps. 1. Run the "Delete Computers" option (#2)if you have computers to be deleted. (If you don't, there's no point in running it.) 2. Run the "DECLINE expired updates" and "DECLINE superseded updates options. (#4 and #5). 3. Run the "DELETE unneeded updates" (#1) option. This is typically the option that is causing the problems. If you're able to get through step #3, then you can 4. Run the "DELETE unneeded files" (#3) option. still can't get a successful ConfigMgr software update sync from my WSUS server. The latest issue is now I couldn't access the Windows Internal Database to run any kind of maintenance script. When trying to connect either via sqlcmd http://www.adamtheautomator.com/solution-unable-connect-wsus-database/ or Management Studio via my logged in Windows credentials I was receiving the error system http://www.bdhtechnology.com/help/wsus.php cannot find the file specified when attempting to connect with the server name nb:\\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query and the error login failed when connecting with the server name nb:\\.\pipe\MICROSOFT\##WID\tsql\query . Also, event ID 18456 - Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error… was being generated in the Application event log along with Login failed for user…. server is in database error script upgrade mode in the C:\Windows\WID\Log\error.log.Microsoft support suspected problems with the WID so we had to get SQL access to it. To anyone that's trying to access the WSUS Windows Internal Database via SQL Server Management Studio Express and cannot get connected, here's what I had to go through:Download and install SQL Server Management Studio Express.Open up SQL Server Configuration Manager and go to Native Client 11.0 Configuration -> Client Protocols error database error and ensure TCP/IP is enabled.Connect to database on command line via sqlcmd -S np:\\.\pipe\MICROSOFT##WID\tsql\queryExecute the queryPgSQL SELECT session_id from sys.dm_Exec_requests where status <> 'sleeping' and session_id <> @@spid SELECT @@spid --This gets the allowed user SPID sp_who 53 --The 53 was my @@spid. The problem is the interface is very unintuitive and requires you to run the options in a specific order, and NOT all at once. If you run them all at once or out of order you will likely see an error similar to the following: Error: Database Error An error occurred when trying to perform a database operation. This can happen if the database is very busy, if the database service is topped, or if the connection to the database is lost. Please contact your systems administrator if the problem persists. Click Reset Server Node to try to connect to the server again. "Reset Server Node" The best way to run it is to see if you can complete these options in the Server Cleanup Wizard as independent steps. Run the "Delete Computers" option (#2) if you have computers to be deleted. (If you don't, there's no point in running it.) Run the "DECLINE expired updates" and "DECLINE superseded updates options. (#4 and #5). Run the "DELETE unneeded updates" (#1) option. This is typically the option that is causing the problems. If you're able to get through step #3, then you can run the "DELETE unneeded files" (#3) option. Server cleanup wizard should be able to run successfully in that order.
