These improvements eliminate the high administrative costs associated with making such changes prior to Version 9.1, a process that could be complex when there are object dependencies that must be accounted for. To modify these attributes previously, you would have had to unload all of the table data; drop the table; recreate the table (as well as dependent objects and all of the authorities that had been associated with the table); and, finally, reload the table data. The DB2 Version 9.1 Control Center, which does not reflect these ALTER TABLE statement enhancements, nevertheless does help by automating some of these tedious steps. For example, suppose you want to use the Control Center to change the nullability attribute of the NAME column in the STAFF table in the SAMPLE database.
