Ronniesonora, ok, when I double clicked on DD it was not started, so I clicked on the Start button in DD Properties and the status changed to Start. However (so many times there is always an "However") the Apply button did not light up, it stayed grayed out. So I clicked ok, closed out and still tried DD but the same message still came up. In Services the Status of Task Scheduler is "Started." But the Status of Disk Defragmenter is blank. So then I double clicked on DD and then the above happened. Frank C. Every time I try it gives this error message " Disk Defragmenter has detected that chkdsk is schedules to run on volume: PRESARIO (c. Please run Chkdsk /f." I tried going to RUN the typing in Chkdsk /f. It runs the program says it will be complete upon restart. So I restart my computer try to run defrag but the same thing still happens I have tried these about 5 times but still the same thing. Any idea on how to stop this? Starryblue2, Jun 14, 2006 #3 Emtronics Joined: Jan 20, 2000 Messages: 2,984 Run defarg in the Safe Mode and see if you get the error. Tap F8 at post startup before Windows starts and choose SAFE MODE, then run Defrag and reboot. If the bought program works, it still doesn't fix your Defrag that came with Windows. If you have a good Windows installation, then Window's tools will work as good as any bought software, just without some bells and whistles. Finding out why your tools, such as Defrag, doesn't work properly is the real fix. Yes Defrag in Windows can be set to run anytime you wish it to run. Also, do you have an anti-virus? If you don't, look at this: www.my-etrust.com/microsoft This is free for one year. Install it whil
