Windows 7 Disk Defragmenter does not work. I get a message, "Disk Defragmenter ""task scheduler" 0x80041315" cannot start because Task Scheduler service is not running. Start the Task Scheduler Service and try again." Well I was able to open up Task Scheduler, which I never used before but I do not see windows 7 disk defragmenter was scheduled using another program how to start Disk Defragmenter in that Service. Go to control panel- open administrative tools- click on (services) and then scroll down to task scheduler, if disabled double click on it and a window will open with a drop down menu to enable it. Defrag Not Working Windows 10
Posts: 29 This post has been reported. I read somewhere that Disk Defragment on W7 is not important to do. Reports: · Posted 4 years ago Top jocaan Posts: 20 This post has been reported. Ronniesonora, ok, when I double clicked on DD it was not started, so I clicked on the Start button in DD Properties and the status changed to Start. However (so many times there is always an "However") the Apply button did not light up, it stayed grayed out. So I clicked ok, closed out and still tried DD but the same message still came up. In Services the Status of Task Scheduler is "Started." But the Status of Disk Defragmenter is blank. So then I double clicked on DD and then the above happened. Frank C. Are you going to Start->Programs->Accesories->System Tools->Disk Defragmenter?? If not try that. In Windows 7 you should not ever have to run it. It is automatic. Mine is set to run every Wednesday at 1:00am. I never have to touch it and as you can see I am 0% fragmented. Are you one of those

system provides tools for error checking and defragmenting a hard disk drive (HDD). If you believe your PXB is having problems: http://rfmw.em.keysight.com/wireless/helpfiles/n5106a/error_checking_and_disk_defragmenter.htm If the PXB boots successfully, run the error checking and disk https://www.chabotcollege.edu/faculty/netacad/prot/ITE/course/module5/5.3.4.1/5.3.4.1.html defragmenter utilities described below. If the PXB will not boot successfully, see Recovering from Hard Drive Problems. However, the error checking and disk defragmenter utilities should be run routinely, about once a month. These utilities should be run more frequently if the PXB is unexpectedly disk defrag shut down. When the PXB is shut down unexpectedly or power is removed without first shutting down, large amounts of HDD space are rendered unusable. If shut down in this manner enough times, the PXB could become unstable and no longer work. To Run the Microsoft Windows XP Error Checking Utility Microsoft's error-checking utility defrag not working scans the HDD for bad sectors, scans for file system errors to see whether certain files or folders are misplaced, and corrects errors. This error-checking utility is also known as "Check Disk." Use this utility to find and correct HDD errors. Close all open files. Click Start, and then click My Computer. In the My Computer window, right-click the drive you want to run the error-checking utility on, and then click Properties. In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools tab. Click the Check Now... button under Error-checking. In the Check Disk dialog box, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start. The Checking Disk dialog box is displayed. When the error-checking utility is complete, the following prompt appears: Disk check complete. Click OK to close the dialog box. If bad sectors are found, choose to fix them. To Run Error-Checking (CHKDSK) from the Agilent Technologies Recovery System The error-checking (CHKDSK) utility is also provided as an op
disk error checking, which scans the hard drive for file structure errors. Several utilities included with Windows help maintain system integrity. Two utilities that are useful tools for preventive maintenance are Disk Defragmenter and the Disk Error-Checking tool, or CHKDSK. Disk Defragmenter As files increase in size, some data is written to the next available cluster on the disk. In time, data becomes fragmented and spread over nonadjacent clusters on the hard drive. As a result, it takes longer to locate and retrieve each section of the data. A disk defragmenter gathers the noncontiguous data into one place, making the OS run faster. In Windows 7, the Disk Defragmenter tool, as shown in Figure 1, is automatically scheduled to run on Wednesday morning or the next time the computer is powered on. NOTE: It is not recommended to perform Windows disk defragmentation on SSDs. SSDs are optimized by the controller and firmware they use. Determine if a hard drive is an SSD by viewing available disk drives in device manager, as shown in Figure 2. To access the Disk Defragmenter in Windows 7, use the following path: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter In Windows Vista, use the following path: Start > Computer > right-click Drive x > Properties > Tools In Windows XP, use the following path: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter Disk Error-Checking Tool The Disk Error-Checking tool checks the integrity of files and folders by scanning the hard disk surface for physical errors. If errors are detected, the tool repairs them. You can access CHKDSK through the Disk Defragmenter or by entering CHKDSK on the command line. Alternatively, you can check a drive for errors using the following steps: Step 1. Click Start and select Computer. Step 2. Right-click the drive to check and select Properties. Step 3. Click the Tools tab. Step 4. Under Error-checking, click Check Now. Step 5. Under Check disk options, select Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. The tool fixes file system errors and checks the disk for bad sectors. It also attempts to recover data from bad sectors. NOTE: Use the Disk Error-Checking tool at least once a month and whenever a sudden loss of power causes the system to shut down. To maintain and optimize an operating system, you can access various tools within Wind
