Advertisement daytripper99 Thread Starter Joined: Dec 5, 2010 Messages: 1 Hi all, I've got Win XP SP3 installed, and I connect to the internet using windows (instead of the fancy Intel Pro wireless connector).. Now, this started happening a couple months ago because I used to have my computer on all night.. Windows suddenly gets disconnected from the network (due https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/connections-tray-hanging-up-2502/ to no actions of my own), the preferred wireless connection is disconnected, and appears as 'automatic' instead of being 'connected'. Repairing the connection doesn't help this. When I finally give up and restart, I get one of those windows where connection tray is trying to shut down properly (with an 'end task' choice). I can't quit and restart 'connection tray' because I can't find it in the task https://forums.techguy.org/threads/connection-tray-error-wireless-networks.966720/ manager to end and restart. Restarting the computer or the router generally fixes this issue. I want to know if there's any other way I can fix this? BTW, tried windows update and everything seems to be up to date with no updates pending. Any suggestions how I can stop this? daytripper99, Dec 5, 2010 #1 Macboatmaster Trusted Advisor Joined: Jan 14, 2010 Messages: 16,342 Intel® PROSet/Wireless is used to set up, edit and manage network profiles to connect to a network. It also includes advanced settings such as power management and channel selection for setting up ad-hoc networks. If you use Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration* as your Wi-Fi manager, you can disable it from the Windows Wireless Network tab. Disable Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration and use Intel® PROSet/Wireless as your Wi-Fi manager: Click Start > Settings > Control Panel. Double-click Network Connections. Right-click Wireless Network Connection. Click Properties. Click Wireless Networks tab. Verify that the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings is not selected. If it is, clear it. 11 YearsDiscussion Span 6 Years Ago Last Post by hotmatrixx 0 11 Years Ago I use Windows XP SP1, and my system runs into problems when I am disconnected from the net. The connection tray freezes every single time, and the tray icon of the two computer screens which flash blue when https://www.daniweb.com/hardware-and-software/microsoft-windows/threads/24435/connections-tray-and-shutdown-issue transferring data doesn't disappear as they usually would when a system disconnects, and only one computer http://backupoff.weebly.com/blog/download-end-program-connection-tray-windows-xp-free-software screen is blue, and remains blue. I know I'm disconnected though, because I can't browse the net etc. Right-clicking on the little icon doesn't do anything, and if I navigate to my network settings via the control panel, right-clicking on my connection gives me the option of disconnecting, oddly enough. When I click that, nothing happens. After trying that, I can't right-click on my connection in end program the network settings again, because it too has frozen. It's a strange problem. Any time this happens, I have to reboot the system to gain control over the connections tray again. But, as I'm rebooting, the "End Task" prompt appears and says that the connections tray isn't responding, so I can either end the task or wait for Windows to do it itself. It makes no difference, because the result is always the same: as Windows is closing down, it gets to the end program connection "Saving your settings..." bit, and then freezes, and the system must be shut down via the power button. This only happens when the connections tray has to be killed. I can reboot normally any other time. I use home networking (and share the internet connection), and I don't recall this problem happening before I began using a network. I'm thinking that this might be a factor in the problem. I also use Norton Internet Security 2005 (with anti-virus included), and perhaps this is the cause. I've tried tweaking little settings here and there to fix the problem, like configuring my connection so that it doesn't attempt to reconnect when disconnected. It doesn't help. It's damn annoying, because I have to do a "dirty" shutdown every time my connection decides to drop. I've read up on the "Saving your settings..." issue, but none of the main reasons offered by websites seem to cover this particular problem. Any ideas? hehehe Thanks for your time :) Paddy 6 219 posts since Sep 2004 Community Member windows-nt-2000-xp Ask a Different Question 0 soupyc 11 Years Ago I have this EXACT problem!!
