10047: An address incompatible with the requested protocol was used. Translation:The error message you receive may vary and might include either of the following messages: Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service? Or This application has failed to start because SPORDER.dll was not found. The above error messages may appear after using Microsoft's Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) software. Some spyware applications install malicious LSPs (layer service protocols). LSPs can intercept traffic between your computer and the Internet, so they are often used by spyware to track your surfing habits http://www.pronetworks.org/forums/error-10047-an-address-incompatible-t45491.html (note however that not all LSPs are malicious in nature). According to Microsoft, when Windows AntiSpyware Beta removes malicious LSPs, it may not restore legitimate LSPs. This can cause the error messages above. Additionally, this may prevent some third party applications from functioning properly, prevent your computer from connecting to the network by preventing it from grabbing an IP address, or prevent you from connecting to certain Web pages http://www.registrywinner.com/pcsupport/html/troubleshooting/6743-error-10047-an-address-incompatible-with-the-requested-protocol-was-used-.html in Internet Explorer. You can examine any potentially damaged LSPs by opening Windows AntiSpyware, selecting Advanced from the Tools menu, and clicking System Explorer. In the tree on the left side of the window, click Winsock LSPs. Broken LSPs will have a question mark next to them. Solution:According to Microsoft, if you're running Windows XP Service Pack 2, you should log into an Administrator account (usually the first account created). From the Start Menu, select Run and type CMD to open a command prompt. Type netsh Winsock reset. You should see a message reading "Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the machine in order to complete the reset." If you receive an error message stating that access was denied, you're not logged into an Administrator account. Log out and try logging into a different account. After you restart the computer, check for broken LSPs using Windows AntiSpyware. Run any third party applications listed to make sure they're functioning properly. If you're still having problems with a third party application, reinstall the application and test it again. If you're running WinXP Service Pack 1, WinXP, or Windows 2000, you'll need to make edit your registry file. Before making any changes to your registry file

If you are on an earlier SP level, or not on Windows XP, you need more information, or, perhaps, a third party app. More information here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892350 http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm -- FAQ for Microsoft Antispyware: http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm "Travi" <> wrote in message news:66ad01c527d0$fee26d60$... > cannot enable firewall service after spyware removal > seems to occur in conjunction with microsoft antispyware > > error 10047: an address incompatible with the requested > protocol was used > > if you get this problem, open a command prompt and type: > > Code: netsh winsock reset > > reboot, and you will get your firewall back. > > Enjoy Bill Sanderson, Mar 13, 2005 #2 Advertisements Show Ignored Content Want to reply to this thread or ask your own question?
