Re: Windows Firewall not working due to Windows Firewall / Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service not working. Soon after installing the beta version of Microsoft’s AntiSpyware software, the Security Center prompted me that my Firewall was not enabled. When I click on “Recommendations it takes met to a window that prompts me to “enable the firewall. When I click on the “Enable button, it indicates that “We’re sorry. The Security Center could not turn on Windows Firewall. To try turning on the firewall yourself, go to Windows Firewall in Control Panel. In the Windows Firewall dialog General tab, select On (recommended), and then click OK. When I go to the Control Panel and click on Windows Firewall, I am prompted with a message that indicates, “Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall / Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service? Once I click the “Yes button it indicates that, “Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall / Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service. To try to manually start ICS, I right-clicked on “My Computer and selected “Manage. Then I went to “Services and Applications, “Services, and clicked on Start for the “Windows Firewall / Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service The error message that I get after that is, “Could not start the Windows Firewall / Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service on Local Computer. A common example of this would be creating a filter on your system that bans access to a specific Web site. This functionality is required for all Windows networking to function properly and there is a default configuration for LSP that is present in https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-windows-xp-default-firewall-error-10047-help.965796/ absence of a third-party alternative. To fix this problem you need to type in a command to manually reset the operating system default LSP. To perform a manual reset open the command line by going to Start > Run and typing cmd and then press the Enter key. At the command prompt type netsh winsock reset and press the Enter key again. You need to reboot and your system should come back up with the Windows Firewall enabled. You might also check your system for malware if you have not already done so. First it gives a warning: could not obtain information from machine(name). Some commands may not be available.. Then it says successfully reset the winsock catalog. You must restart the machine in order to complete the reset.. And when i restart still the firewall is turned off..When i try to start it from administrator tools>services. It shows status as stopped. And under dependencies it shows wmi initialization failure. When i try to start firewall..Again i get same error 10047.What to do please help.
