I've had a problem with Windows Installer for a few weeks now, and I've basically searched the entire Internet for a solution, but none will work for me. The problem I'm having appears to be very common, but none of the common solutions will work for me. I've taken a look at this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315346/en-us , as well as many others, and tried all of the resolutions listed, but no matter what I do, nothing will resolve my problem. I've done all of the basic methods for fixing this problem, including (but not limited to): re-registering msiexec.exe, reinstalling Windows Installer 3.1 v2, performing numerous virus/malware/error scans, checking MSIServer registry key, etc, but none of these have made even the slightest change to the problem. I did do some diagnosis work to narrow down the problem, and it turns out that I can't start the Windows Installer Service manually in services.msc . The Windows Installer service is set to manual, and when I attempt to start it I receive the following error message (after a delay of about 30 seconds where the startup dialog 'hangs'): 'Could not start the Windows Installer service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.' In addition, when I do this, I receive the following two 'System' event errors in Event Viewer: Source: Service Control Manager Event ID: 7009 Description: Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Windows Installer service to connect. Source: Service Control Manager Event ID: 7000 Description: The Windows Installer service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. Reformatting this computer is not an option that is particularly feasible for me, and I would hope that there is a simple solution to fix my problem. As you might imagine, this problem has been quite a real hindrance, and I would like to resolve it as soon as possible (as I'm about to enter my final year in university). I'm happy to do any additional diagnostic test
