Error 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT): The operation timed out. I have now found a way to quickly, and almost always successfully fix this. Although it is annoying that it persists. But this is what I have done, and still do; 1. Change to Google DNS In my PC I have set the DNS to use Google DNS. This is done by going to your Windows Control Panel > Network and Internet ? Change adapter settings (this option is on the left nav bar, see screenshot). Changing to Google DNS in Windows 7 Then you see the Local Area Connection - Left Mouse Click it to highlight it, and then Right Mouse Click it and select Properties at the bottom. Then highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 and click Properties. Here are more screenshots: In the last to boxes of the IPv4 window there are Prefered DNS server and Alternate DNS Server. Change these to 8.8.4.4. and 8.8.8.8. as shown. If there is something there now, take a note, just in case you need to put it back. So, now your computer will use Google DNS. I have found that this causes fewer problems, but I am still getting the errors. Flush DNS and Renew DNS The other thing I do, which generally works, is Flush and Renew DNS in the Windows Command Prompt. To open the Command Prompt you can just hold down the Windows key and press R (Win-R) which brings up the "Run box",

the Facebook site I got the dreaded Error code 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT) error page instead. Looking online for a solution was fruitless.Even thoughmany people had the same problem there was not any generic solution suggesting that the problem was user dependent. After checking my network settings typing the following at the command line ipconfig /all Irealizedthat my DNS servers were set at google's public DNS servers8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 so I went to network settings and selected the obtain dns server address automatically setting and tried to access again Facebook and it worked. Google's DNS servers were faster than my own ISP's but as it is stated in the documentationhttps://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/performance Note, however, that because nameservers geolocate according to the resolver's IP address rather than the user's, Google Public DNS has the same limitations as other open DNS services: that is, the server to which a user is referred might be farther away than one to which a local DNS provider would have referred. This could cause a slower browsing experience for certain sites. In my case the server that Google DNS suggested was too far from my location andsubsequentlythere was a connection timeout error issued from the facebook server. ©2015quicknotes2015.blogspot.com Posted by Fractal at 6:39 AM Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare to FacebookShare to Pinterest Labels: Connection Timed Out, Error code 118, Facebook, How-to 2 comments: oldceltDecember 3, 2015 at 11:43 AMI guess for us mere mortals who don't understand we shall just have to let it work its way until eventually we do get on facebookAll so damned annoying.ReplyDeleteRepliesFractalDecember 3, 2015 at 1:11 PMHello oldcelt, in my case the "Error code 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT)" problem lasted for a week before I managed to find the problem and fix it.During that week I tried all solutions that I could find online to no avail.
