is not being maintained. This documentation is archived and is not being maintained. SMS Error Handling System Center This section details how to handle SMS Provider-generated errors. For a general discussion on error handling, see Error Handling for Applications (COM) or Error Handling (Scripting) in the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) documentation. How and when you get an error object depends on whether you are making a synchronous, semisynchronous, or asynchronous call. It also depends on the language you are using to write your application. In most cases, the HRESULT is set to WBEM_E_FAILED when an error occurs. But at this point, it is unknown whether the error was generated by WMI or the SMS Provider. After you get the error object instance, you can check the __Class property to determine the origin of the error. WMI creates an instance of __ExtendedStatus for WMI errors and the SMS Provider creates an instance of SMS_ExtendedStatus for SMS Provider errors. SMS_ExtendedStatus is derived from __ExtendedStatus. You can use the macros and #defines contained in Ssperrcode.h to help you evaluate the ErrorCode set in the SMS_ExtendedStatus object.
