Posted by mhm on January 21, 2008 at 8:13pm If I have somehow missed an already answered version of drupal 500 internal server error this question, my apologies, and someone please point me to it. I am absolutely new to
500 Internal Server Error Drupal Htaccess
Drupal, and things aren't going so well. First I tried installing through my hosting provider, who has an option to install things like drupal 500 internal server error after update Drupal from the cpanel, but that doesn't work (gives me a page not found error message). (The hosting provider would install Drupal 4.7. I figured I'd install from there, and then switch the files manually to 5.6, but that's obviously https://www.drupal.org/node/416906 not going to be an option. Below, I've been working with 5.6.) I already set up the MySQL database through my host's cpanel. I have manually put the Drupal files in a subdirectory, www.example.com/drupal/ (The current plan is to keep the regular website up and running while I figure things out in Drupal, and to then get rid of the current website.) When I try running the install script, I get error 500: The server encountered an unexpected condition https://www.drupal.org/node/212638 which prevented it from fulfilling the request. The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log. I suspect there is something amiss because I'm installing in the subdirectory, but I really don't know what, or how to fix it. Any hints on what I'm doing wrong would be greatly appreciated. (Otherwise, perhaps it is a problem with the host, who is . . . well, not great.) Do you have access to the error log of your machine? If so please have a look there and post these messages if you can't resolve the issue based on the information given there. A error 500 can basically mean anything. Really hard to guess the reason unless you provide further information. Hope that helps Andreas Log in or register to post comments I've looked in the CGI error mhm commented January 22, 2008 at 2:02am I've looked in the CGI error log, and there is nothing there. Should there be some other error log I should be looking for? Thank you! Log in or register to post

However, several of my nodes that use media fields were getting HTTP 500 (WSOD) if accessed by an anonymous user. Logged in users could see the page, no prob. November 26th, 2012 by John Bickar in Drupal 8.x Tutorial drupal8 This quick note outlines the additional steps required for installing Drupal 8 on the central web infrastructure (web.stanford.edu and AFS). In other words, it doesn't show all the steps (download Drupal, untar it, etc.), just the few steps needed that are special to our infrastructure. Allowing Drupal to install by changing the .htaccess file After you've downloaded Drupal, you'll need to modify the .htaccess file that comes with it before you do anything else or the installation won't even start. You'll get an error from the web server. Comment out the following line found towards the beginning of the .htaccess file: # Don't show directory listings for URLs which map to a directory. Options -Indexes # Follow symbolic links in this directory. Options +FollowSymLinks so that it looks like this: # Don't show directory listings for URLs which map to a directory. # Options -Indexes # Follow symbolic links in this directory. # Options +FollowSymLinks You also will need to edit the .htaccess file in the sites/default/files directory to comment out the Options lines, so that it looks like this: # Turn off all options we don't need. # Options None # Options +FollowSymLinks Preparing for Clean URLs Drupal 8 will check whether the server supports clean URLs during installation and will turn them on if it does. To do this, Drupal 8 needs a little help. It requires a change in the .htaccess file. Find these lines at the bottom of the file: # Modify the RewriteBase if you are using Drupal in a subdirectory or in a # VirtualDocumentRoot and the rewrite rules are not working properly. # For example if your site is at http://example.com/drupal uncomment and # modify the following line: # RewriteBase /drupal and uncomment the RewriteBase part, specifying the location of your drupal install. If you placed it in /afs/ir/dept/its/cgi-bin/drupalrocks, you'd change the line
