Advertisement GRIFFCON Thread Starter Joined: Mar 25, 1999 Messages: 105 Hi Guys: Whenever I attempt to install certain programs, I get an error stating that the Windows Installer (Windows XP) has to be reinstalled. Recently, I updated the Installer to v3.1 (v2) KB893803. (Would have left the previous 'installer' in place, but certain newer applications demand you update to the version mnentioned). I've gone to Microsoft's so-called "Knowledge Base" in an attempt to get a handle on this, but the solutions listed simply do not correct the problem. I've also tried to unregister the msiexec by using (msiexec /unreg) in the 'run' dialog box in order to re-register (msiexec /regserver). Unfortunately, to no avail. I've go into 'Services' and attempted to start the service; only to be greeted with this: "Could Not Start Windows Installer Service On Local Computer. Error 997: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress". If anyone has a resolution (apart from those already tried), please give me a head's up.
