New here... as Im sure you all could tell..Anyways.I have a Windows Vista HP Laptop. It's a year old. I'm not too savvy on how to tell what kind of error 999 RAM and all that it has.I'm just looking to try and fix it. I only use it for school stuff, emailing, and car forums. I lost the server while on several car forums and an online drag racing website game. I figured, if I restart it, it might work. Its done that before. When I start it up, I come to a screen that says "Launch Startup Repair (recommended)" And "Start windows normally".Either one I error 999 sthive#0#0 choose it leads to "Windows is loading files". It them comes up with a blue school screen that comes with the error code "Loadkey failed with error 999 (STHIV#0)".It then goes into "Start up repair". That leads to "System recovery options". I click "Us" keyboard layout, and that leads me to more "System recovery questions". And thats as far as I get. It then just keeps doing that over and over....What can I do to fix it..? Any help would be great. Thanks, nick. « Last Edit: December 20, 2008, 07:49:14 PM by Dart Kid » Logged Carbon Dudeoxide Global ModeratorMastermind Thanked: 166 Certifications: List Computer: Specs Experience: Expert OS: Windows 7 Re: Error code 999? « Reply #1 on: December 20, 2008, 07:44:06 PM » Welcome to ComputerHope.[note: I removed your email to prevent SPAM and because we want to keep everything on the forums]I found this: http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-vista/c-drive-not-found/1771.htmlIt appears to be a problem with the Hard Drive itself. What Model Laptop is this?Any drops or slamming on tables at all? Error 999 #1 I have a new HP Laptop (2 months old) that seems to have a rather large problem. The error message LoadKey failed with error 999 (STHIVE =/= 0 pops up whenever I try to boot it up. It has been running a Startup Repair program for a few hours, but it seems to just be coming up with the same error over and over again. Any idea what's going on here? To test your HDD go into your Bios when booting, all HP laptops within the last 2 years have had a HDD test built in. Do that, if your HDD is failing you'll get an error code before the test is done. You can go online and see what the code means. Call HP and GOODLUCK With their customer support you're going to needs it. I should have just bootlegged it like everyone else that has a fake genuine version.
