Galdorf Expand Collapse Well-Known Member Likes Received: 132 Location: Sudbury, Ontario, Canada This seems to be showing up a lot on vista machines something is corrupting the registry with this error a repair even system repair or restore is not possible. One of the reasons why i hate vista, if anything with xp happens i can fix just about anything, vista something messes up the registry, user profiles https://www.technibble.com/forums/threads/loadkey-failed-with-error-999-sthive-0.8241/ or library all it does is blue screen and you can't even get to repair even on the install dvd. I hope windows 7 is much easier to repair, i usually end up copying data and reformat. Doing a chkdsk ect to see if there is data corruption or bad sector on hd then a virus check on another pc. #1 Galdorf, Jul 31, 2009 AtYourService Expand Collapse Member Likes Received: 12 Location: CT yea i would run a chkdsk or use a live cd to use a disk checking tool from there, also check to see if the registry files are still in their locations and not deleted #2 AtYourService, Jul 31, 2009 Galdorf Expand Collapse Well-Known Member Likes Received: 132 Location: Sudbury, Ontario, Canada The registry is corrupt now how to restore it? ubcdwin pe registry restore does not work in vista. I can't get to a command prompt, safe mode, recovery just pops up the above error no way to do a system restore either even from vista dvd. Guess ill have to do this by hand using ubcd4win. #3 Galdorf, Jul 31, 2009 Galdorf Expand Collapse Well-Known Member Likes Received: 132 Location: Sudbury, Ontario, Canada Wow i lucked out the guy had registry mechanic installed it makes regular backups of the registry, i put customers hd on my machine checke

Whenever I error 999 try to turn it on, it says that Windows has either had a hardware or software problem and that I can either start windows normally r use the System Recovery. Either way, it goes to the same default blue-background screen with an enlarged mouse, where I then get the following error message: "LoadKey failed with error 999 (STHIVE#0)". It then runs the Startup Repair, error 999 sthive which never works. What happened? did I lose my computer? Is this a HP or Compaq computer? I havent personally come across this error but I did some research and it seems to happen exclusively to these machines. I think the most likely explanation is your registry has corrupted but it is also possible that your hard drive has failed. Do you have a Vista DVD? If not, you can download an iso for a Vista Recovery disk from here and burn it to disk. Boot from the DVD and open a command prompt. See here for more help. After the prompt, type: chkdsk c: /r after the prompt and hit Enter. It will take a while to run but keep an eye on it. Did it find any errors on the volume?
