in a series, it changes the value of that data point for the entire series. This is not the correct way individual error bars numbers to assign error values to data. Each data point should get its own value but there is no choice but to select the whole series. Adding Standard Deviation Bars In Numbers
2011 4:46 PM in response to cfion cfion,Take a deep breath, it's ok.You will use the Custom option for error bars and instead of typing a fixed value into the field that would apply to the entire dataset, type in an address range for cells containing your point-by-point error values. Easier yet is to put the cursor in the error field and then use the mouse pointer to select the range in your table. Usually you would put the custom error values in a column next to the Y-Values.Jerry Helpful (3) Reply options Link to this post by Barry, Barry Jan 24, 2011 4:52 PM in response to cfion Level 7 (32,537 points) iWork Jan 24, 2011 4:52 PM in response to cfion A search of the forum for "error AND bars" (the first two words of your subject line) brings up several hits, including the ones below:Custom error bars in NumbersAdding standard deviation bars to graphsStandard deviation for each point on a graphRegards,Barry Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by milan1573, milan1573 Feb 15, 2016 11:46 PM in response to Jerrold Green1 Level 1 (5 points) Feb 15, 2016 11:46 PM in response to Jerrold Green1 Thanks. Peltier Technical Services, Inc., Copyright © 2016. I've written about Excel chart error bars in Error Bars in Excel Charts for Classic Excel and in Error Bars in Excel 2007 Charts for New Excel. Both articles contained instructions for adding custom error bar values for individual points, but judging from the http://peltiertech.com/custom-error-bars-in-excel-charts/ emails I receive, a separate article on custom error bars is needed. You cannot add custom error bar values to a single point in a chart. However, you can individual custom error bar values to all points in a plotted series. You need http://www.macintouch.com/reviews/ipad/iwork.html to put all of the individual error bar values into a range of the worksheet. I usually put these values in the same table as the actual X and Y values Manually Defining Custom Error Bars Sample Data and Charts Suppose we have the error bars following data: X and Y values, plus extra columns with positive and negative error bar values for both X and Y directions. The data is set up so that, for example, cells C2 and D2 have the values for the positive and negative horizontal (X) error bars for the point defined by X and Y values in A2 and B2. Cells E2 and F2 have the values for the positive and negative vertical (Y) error bars for this point. The series is plotted using all the data at once, bars in numbers with X in A2:A6 and Y in B2:6. The error bars are also drawn using all the error bar data at once: C2:C6 and D2:D6 for horizontal and E2:E6 and F2:F6 for vertical. The chart itself is easy: create an XY chart using the data in columns A and B. The protocols for adding custom error bars differ between Classic Excel and new Excel. After following the appropriate protocol below, the chart will have custom error bars on each data point, based on the additional columns of data. This chart shows just the Y error bars, to show clearly that each point has custom values different from other points: This chart shows the X and Y error bars: Important Note A single custom error bar value cannot be added to a single data point, and custom error bar values cannot be added to a series of data points one point at a time. If you select a single value for your custom error bars, this single value will be applied to all points in the series. A whole set of custom error bar values can be added to an entire series in one operation. Put your custom values into a range parallel to your X and Y values as I've done with this sample data, then use the manual technique or the utility to add all the values to the chart series in one step. New Excel (2007 and later) It is harder to apply error bars in Excel 2007 than in earlier versions. There is no convenient tab on the Form
Introduction With the iPad, Apple also introduced three new "apps" derived from the company's iWork product for Mac OS X but recreated for the new tablet: Pages is a word processor and lightweight page layout tool; Numbers is a spreadsheet app; and Keynote is Apple's presentation tool. Unlike the $69 iWork suite for Mac OS X, these three apps for iPad are priced separately at $9.99 each. The iWork apps' ability to work with Microsoft Office documents, combined with the remarkable mobility of the iPad, promise productivity for roving professionals, students, and anyone else who's on the move — particularly when optional iPad 3G networking is available in the absence of WiFi. We've spent the past few weeks using iWork apps with both business and personal documents, learning the ins and outs of file exchange, features and compatibility. In doing so, we've gained a better sense of what iWork iPad apps are good at, and what they're not. None of the three apps have all the features of their desktop versions. Apple seems to have followed the 80/20 rule: Implement the 20% of features that get used 80% of the time. Is it enough? That depends. But first, let us consider how different the iPad is from a Mac.... New Interface Conventions When Apple created the iPhone's multi-touch interface three years ago, its designers had to devise new ways of performing tasks without a high-precision mouse and using a virtual keyboard. iWork iPad apps face the same challenge, but even more so. The iPhone could simply eschew things taken for granted in traditional operating systems, like the ability to rename icons or playlists, directly manage files and folders, or even copy and paste (though the latter were added two years later). But Pages, Numbers and Keynote have very specific tasks that require a great deal of versatility. Apple's developers don't have the luxury of deciding to leave out things li
