I am trying to add error how to add error bars in excel 2016 mac bars to a bar chart in Excel. The Help instructions say 'select the data series and then on the Format menu click horizontal error bars excel selected data series'. When I do go to the format menu to select the data series, there isn't that option. What am I doing wrong? You can't format the error bars differently. However, it might help if you colour the data bars differently. Put in commentary notes on the error bars if neccessary. It's more important your readers understand your intentions, that would be sufficient. As many formulas can be quite lengthy, adding it to another toolbar would reduce the size of the editing area and render it no better than editing directly in the cell. It is not possible, and I see no reason, to include it in the Standard or Formatting toolbars. I am curious why you find it 'a bit annoying'. What is it you are trying to accomplish by adding it to another toolb
