The main problem is described by this problem with the menu system: (When you choose errors bars, Excel serves up menu options only for vertical error bars.) I did notice that when you choose add error bars, while Excel only pops up the formatting options box for the vertical ones, it http://superuser.com/questions/624922/excel-generate-and-format-horizontal-error-bars does also seem to generate horizontal ones. A second problem, though, is that I have not been able to select the horizontal error bars (any error bars, actually) in the chart area. How can I get access to a Format Error Bars box for horizontal error bars? Ideally the box would just have a section for vertical error bars and a section for horizontal ones. The next best thing would be the ability to click on the "Vertical Error Bars" tab to change it. The next best thing would be to be able to select vertical or horizontal error bars when first choosing More Error Bars Options.... At very least you should be able to select error bars in the chart area and right-click them to access the formatting options. Excel's default behavior is to create both vertical and horizontal error bars on the chart. If you want to have only horizontal error bars, there are two differ
possible to still do this in Excel 2007? I can find Vertical, but not horizontal. Thanks, Barb Reinhardt Barb Reinhardt, Oct 12, http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/horizontal-error-bars-in-excel-2007.3904806/ 2009 #1 Advertisements John Mansfield Guest Hi Barb, Yes, they still exist but they're not easy to find. If you have an XY chart for example, click on the outside edge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJR81l_-Rcs In the layout tab go to the analysis group. Select Error Bars -> More Error Bar Options. It should then add vertical and horizontal error bars to your chart. However, error bars the Format Error Bars dialog box indicates only Vertical Error Bars. What is hard to see is that the dialog box is modeless. So, while it's still on your screen you can click on the error bars in the chart. As you click on a horizontal error bar, the dialog box will switch to a horizontal mode. When you click on a horizontal error bars vertical error bar, it then goes to the vertical mode. Seems like it was a lot easier in Excel 2003. Jon Peltier has a blog post that covers this behavior: http://peltiertech.com/WordPress/error-bars-in-excel-2007/ ---- John Mansfield http://www.cellmatrix.net "Barb Reinhardt" wrote: > Is it possible to still do this in Excel 2007? I have an X-Y scatter plot, and when I add error bars it is only vertical. If I click on my series with the error bar modeless dialog box on the screen, I can only click on the vertical error bars. how can I click on (to select) horizontal error bars if they don't seem to exist? So very frustrating. Give me Excel 2002 back. "John Mansfield" wrote: > Hi Barb, > > Yes, they still exist but they're not easy to find. If you have an XY chart > for example, click on the outside

There are many other aspects of graphing that need to be included for you to make an appropriate graph. This is only meant to show how to add the uncertainties for both the Y and X axis in a scatter plot, using Microsoft Excel 2008. If you have a different version of Excel, run it on a PC, or have a different spreadsheet software altogether, you probably need to look around for these functions, though they are typically similar.
