If you are using hardware that is 5+ years old, then try LXLE lxle.net –HarlemSquirrel Jun 9 '14 at 13:02 @HarlemSquirrel: He says he has Trusty Tahr (in my answer, which I deleted since I assumed he was using Lucid). –saiarcot895 Jun 9 '14 at 13:08 1 I am using Trusty!!!! –Ritik Jun 9 '14 at 13:09 Strange. Have you tried installing libasound2 and then installing Chrome? –saiarcot895 Jun 9 '14 at 13:13 | show 2 more comments 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted I think it can be solved by installing Chrome through repository directly. Just run: sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main" sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install google-chrome-stable This works for me. You can also install google-chrome-beta or google-chro

I'm trying to download Skype on it. I previously had Skype working without a hitch while using Linux Lite on another hard drive. I'm running it off a 2GB flash drive right now. Now on this new hard drive, when I try to install Skype I get an error saying http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?topic=141605.0 "Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libasound2 (>= 1.0.23)" on the Status area of the package installer. As far as I can tell, that looks like it's saying that the error is due to libasound2 (whatever that is) being greater than 1.0.23? Does that mean I need a version older then 1.0.23? Maybe it doesn't mean that at all. Anyway, that's what it says. I can't hit the install package button, can only exit out. The thing I downloaded is on the Skype downloads page. It's under the "Choose your distribution" tab as "Ubuntu 12.04 (multiarch)". I downloaded that same thing last time I booted up Linux Lite from this same flash drive on a different hard drive. It worked that time. That was 2 days ago. Today, on a different hard drive I'm getting this error. I downloaded libasound2 1.0.22 off some site after looking up this problem. When I tried to install it, I got an error saying "A newer version is already installed". I don't know anything about programming or Linux. I'm using it for right now for reasons explained in the extra background junk at the bottom. That's about it, I can't install Skype because it says that dependency not satisfiable line. Created: 2011-02-02 Updated: 2013-05-30 Tim B. - 2011-02-02 Hi Y'all, I am running Ubuntu 9.10 and trying to install Gnaural. The downloads page has some incorrect information on it: http://gnaural.sourceforge.net/download/ Specifically it states: "The above Linux versions were packages specifically for Debian. Versions of Gnaural can also be found error dependency natively within these distributions: Fedora, Ubuntu, SuSE, Gentoo, ArchLinux." There is no "native" distribution available in the Ubuntu Synaptic Package Manager application. Too bad though, because I was hoping to find it there! That would just be too easy. :) Anyway, I downloaded the debian package from the gnaural downloads page link. When I go to install the debian package the install-wizard comes error dependency is up with an error message: "package: gnaural Error: dependency is not satisfiable: libasound2 (>> 1.0.22) When I try to update my system with libasound2, it says I have the current version for Ubuntu: ~$ sudo apt-get install libasound2 Reading package lists… Done Building dependency tree      Reading state information… Done libasound2 is already the newest version. The latest version in the Synaptic Package Manager is 1.0.20-3ubuntu6.1. So that's a weird error. Next… I tried downloading the source and running ./configure but the following error occurs: checking for PACKAGE… configure: error: Package requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 2.0.0 gthread-2.0 sndfile >= 1.0.2 portaudio-2.0 >= 19) were not met: No package 'gtk+-2.0' found No package 'gthread-2.0' found No package 'sndfile' found No package 'portaudio-2.0' found OK, this is to be expected according to the SourceForge installation instructions. Thus, following the instructions it says to enter this apt-get command: sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-dev libglade2-dev libsndfile1-dev portaudio19-dev which results in this package dependency error: The following packages have unmet dependencies:  libgtk2.0-dev: Depends: libgtk2.0-0 (= 2.18.3-1) but 2.18.3-1ubuntu2.1 is to be installed                 Depends: libglib2.0-dev (>= 2.21.3) but it is not going to be installed               Â
