Miller123 Level 1 (0 points) Q: Downgrade of iTunes 11 to 10.7 = error message (-42408) So I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and immediately regretted it. I then went about reinstalling 10.7 by downloading it from Apple's website and then deleted 11. I replaced the new itunes library with the latest 'previous' version from the itunes folder. So 10.7 is up and running again but now I get 2 error messages every time I open it. One says 'An unknown error occured (-402408)' then one appears immediately after saying 'We could not complete your itunes store request. An unknown error occured (-402408). There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later' After I click these away iTunes opperates normally. I'm sure these error messages are related to my cut and paste way of downgrading itunes but how do i stop the errors from occuring? Is there another file i need to delete/modify/replace?I really dont want to have to upgrade to 11, I can't stand the new layout that they for some reason are forcing you to have. And, after weighing up various options, including various alternative players, I decided to downgrade to iTunes 10.7. iTunes 10.7 supports iOS 6 so I would still be able to sync my iPhone while enjoying all the features and aesthetics which are sadly (and annoyingly) lacking in iTunes 11. I can confirm that by using this method my iPhone, which is currently running iOS 6, does not get the "restore factory settings" error and has https://thoughtsviewsopinions.wordpress.com/2013/02/18/how-to-downgrade-from-itunes-11-to-itunes-10-7-a-solution-to-a-few-other-itunes-errors/ no problems syncing and accessing all the apps I downloaded using iTunes 11. I also did not get the dreaded error message (-42408). I had both these problems when I tried to downgrade previously. So this guide also provides a solution to these errors. I would also like to add that my iPhone is not jailbroken (just FYI). iTunes 10 includes all the following features which I missed EVERY TIME I used iTunes 11: displaying a playlist in shuffle order remembering your shuffled playlist order when you restart iTunes having the album art viewer in the sidebar displaying music videos in the album art viewer actually having a usable volume control for Mini Player an aesthetic which does not burn my eyes every time I look at it (etc. etc. it's a long list…) So I wanted iTunes 10 back. I thought it would be fairly straightforward to downgrade - just uninstall iTunes 11 and then install iTunes 10.7. How wrong I was! The basic reason for this is that iTunes makes little notes about the version you are using all over your system. It won’t let you downgrade because all these notes have no instructions built in to cope with that. Apple doesn’t expect you to want to downgrade so that eventuality has not been prepared for. If you decide you want to downgrade you
hate it, and we have our reasons. (Mine happens to be the inability to skip tracks while Repeat One is on. Yup, deal-breaker for me. UPDATE: Fixed that!) So let's make things right again. First, you'll https://awesometoast.com/downgrading-to-itunes-10-7-from-itunes-11-on-osx/ need a backup of your iTunes Library.itl file, found under ~/Music/iTunes. Fortunately, I backed my library up right before installing iTunes 11. Note that any new songs, apps, etc. that you may have added since installing 11 https://disqus.com/home/discussion/channel-pynoyope/problems_installing_itunes_107/ will need to be replaced. In my case, I used the "Date Added" feature in iTunes to find which files I had added since November 28, and copied those out into a separate folder. When the downgrade was error installing complete, I simply copied them back in. Let's get started: 1. Back up your iTunes Library.itl file, found under ~/Music/iTunes 2. Now you need an iTunes 10.7 dmg file. Download it from Apple here. 3. Delete iTunes 11. There are different ways to do this. One is to use an app called AppZapper. The method that worked for me was this: Open Terminal.app and run these commands, one at a time: killall iTunes killall "iTunes Helper" error installing itunes sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/ That last one will need your password and will probably take a minute or so. 4. Now we have to reinstall iTunes 10.7 using an app called Pacifist (shareware, free). Download Pacifist and run it. (Mavericks: download Pacifist from the link at the bottom of the post instead.) 5. Choose the Open Package option. Browse to the iTunes 10.7 dmg file. 6. You'll get a list of files. Select "Contents of Install iTunes.pkg", and from the top left corner of the app, choose Install. 7. Be careful here! Every time Pacifist tells you a file already exists, make sure you check the "always" box and choose Replace (not update). This should happen around three or four times. 8. You're almost done. Before running iTunes again, make sure you have recovered your "iTunes Library.itl" from a pre-iTunes-11 backup. After that, you should be good to go. But as ever, your mileage may vary. Mavericks (10.9) Update I was dreading Mavericks because it automatically updates iTunes to 11, and this is frankly unacceptable for some. Thank goodness this method worked like a charm this morning! I had 10.7 back in about 5 minutes. There was only one hiccup: Use this version of Pacifist (3.0.10)! For some reason, the latest version (3.2 as of this writing) would not install the package. Also, if you
