to install security update for flash player (KB923789) Discussion in 'Software' started by toddler, Dec 17, 2006. toddler Private E-2 I am running MS XP SP2 and my automatic update from MS keeps trying to install "security update for flash player KB923789". I am running spybots&d but have put microsoft security on the ignore list. Also run sygate firewall, but have turned it off and the update still won't install. The rest of the automatic updates seem to install OK. Any ideas? toddler, Dec 17, 2006 #1 COMPUABLE First Sergeant >> I am running MS XP SP2 and my automatic update from MS keeps trying to install "security update for flash player KB923789" toddler << I'm not really http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-update/unable-to-install-update-kb923789-error-0x80070643/9b8ad1c1-a7c1-46f4-8eaa-c28501fcaf42 sure if this will help you in your situation, but here goes: A few months ago I was having an "already been installed" problem with flash. Every time I went to a site that required Flash to view any videos; the site would invariably produce an error message saying that I needed to "upgrade" my Macromedia Flash Player. When I'd then upgrade and return to the video sites; I would continue to receive the same exact error over and over http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/unable-to-install-security-update-for-flash-player-kb923789.111156/ again! In any case, using the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller fixed this problem (in a "flash" so to speak) and consequently allowed me to install the latest version of the Macromedia Flash Player (at this link) without any problems; and I'm now able to view videos again. As I said, I'm not sure if this is exactly "the fix" that you need, but it's worth a try! Good Luck COMPUABLE, Dec 17, 2006 #2 toddler Private E-2 Sorry about the double post!!! Problem solved! When I tried it I received an error message that the "version of Macromedia Flash you have installed does not match the update you are trying to install". I then went to add/remove programs and uninstalled Flashplayer which was version 8. Then opened IE which asked me to install Flashplayer because it could not render the page properly. I proceeded to install the Flashplayer, which took 2 attempts and I check with the Flashplayer checker which can be located with Google to be sure it was installed. Do not forget to reboot after the installation and before using the checker. I then went to IE and did the windows update. With the new Flashplayer, apparently the update is not
with other third party programs, its updated on a regular basis. In many cases, the Flash Security Update KB923789 in Windows Update would not install properly. In other cases, you may have received an error "you must install a later version of the Macromedia Flash Player". In April 2008, Adobe is releasing another security update that may cause issues too. Because of these problems, you may have to uninstall and reinstall the flash player to may it work properly. Follow the steps below to download the Flash Player Uninstaller and then reinstall it.
