in Tech blog Sooner or later all websites run into trouble (even Google) or have to perform maintenance that takes them offline. However, there is a big difference between how different build template error message websites handle the resulting error or maintenance pages that will have to be shown build template error message lexmark uninstall to the user. Some lighten the mood with jokes, some are dry and to the point, and some drop the error message html template ball completely. We make our living here at Pingdom by monitoring websites for problems, so we tend to stumble across more of these error pages than most people do. This post includes error and

maintenance pages for 24 of the most popular Web 2.0 services out there. While two of them can definitely be considered examples of what NOT to do, the other 22 are here to give you plenty of inspiration and hopefully put a smile on your face. We have divided them into three categories: The fun (or very strange) ones The to-the-point ones The "non-existent" ones (i.e. the keurig 2.0 error message water under pressure bad examples) If you're a frequent user of these services, you are bound to recognize some of the screenshots below, although we tried to stay away from the most obvious ones (like the Twitter fail whale). And if you're feeling inclined to make your own custom error or maintenance page, we have included some helpful advice at the bottom of this post (a "best practices" of sorts). The fun (or very strange) ones YouTube YouTube is known for being one of the services that have truly charming error pages, in lots of varieties. Update: It turns out that the above page is actually not an official YouTube error page but a satirical take done by Brendan McGetrick. It's still a great example, though, so we'll leave it in here. 🙂 Mixx This one is brilliant. Not only do they entertain the user, they manage to do some branding in the process. Twitter Twitter's most (in)famous error mascot is the Fail Whale, but their error pages show more diversity than that. This is another (quite trippy) example. defines several data structures and the rules around their processing. It is transport agnostic in that the concepts can be used within the same process, over sockets, over http, or in many various message passing environments. It uses JSON (RFC 4627) as data format. It is designed to be simple! 2 Conventions http://royal.pingdom.com/2008/12/02/24-fun-and-inspiring-web-20-error-pages/ The key words "MUST", "MUST NOT", "REQUIRED", "SHALL", "SHALL NOT", "SHOULD", "SHOULD NOT", "RECOMMENDED", "MAY", and "OPTIONAL" in this document are to be interpreted as described in RFC 2119. Since JSON-RPC utilizes JSON, it has the same type system (see http://www.json.org or RFC 4627). JSON can represent four primitive types (Strings, Numbers, Booleans, and Null) and two structured types (Objects and Arrays). The term "Primitive" in http://www.jsonrpc.org/specification this specification references any of those four primitive JSON types. The term "Structured" references either of the structured JSON types. Whenever this document refers to any JSON type, the first letter is always capitalized: Object, Array, String, Number, Boolean, Null. True and False are also capitalized. All member names exchanged between the Client and the Server that are considered for matching of any kind should be considered to be case-sensitive. The terms function, method, and procedure can be assumed to be interchangeable. The Client is defined as the origin of Request objects and the handler of Response objects. The Server is defined as the origin of Response objects and the handler of Request objects. One implementation of this specification could easily fill both of those roles, even at the same time, to other different clients or the same client. This specification does not address that layer of complexity. 3 Compatibility JSON-RPC 2.0 Request objects and Response objects may not work with existing JSON-RPC 1.0 clients or servers. However, it iseasy to distinguish between the two versions as 2.0 always has a member named "jsonrpc" with a String value of "2.0" whereas 1.0 does not. Most
