Error Package System Does Not Exist System.out.println
This Site Careers Other all forums Forum: Beginning Java package system does not exist mac hershberger Greenhorn Posts: 4 posted 10 years ago I am truly a beginner. I've just started reading Head First Java. I've downloaded Java 5 and now i am trying to write the first program in the book. my code is: public class myfirstapp { public static void main (String[] args) {system.out.print("I Rule!");} } when i try to compile the program using "javac.exe myfirstapp.java" i get the following error message: "package system does not exist" and it points to the word "system". What should i do to get past this? Thank you, Mac Scott Selikoff author Saloon Keeper Posts: 4028 18 I like... posted 10 years ago 1 It's "System" not "system". Capitilization always matters! You should look at where it says symbol. It tells you what symbol is incorrect.class string. This means it can't find the class named string. Probably because it doesn't exist. You see this, and think, "oh, that should be a capital 'S'!".As for the second one. Same format for the error.fileName.java:line number of error: errorIn this case, it was Package system does not exist. In this case, it pointed to the package, but in other cases it will just point to the line. Knowing now that it is System, and not system, you can see what your error was. 0 edward sutta · February 10, 2015 it work better .................thanksNicholas Capital letters real matter in Java. 1 Java / Android Development 104,456 followers About
in another thread. I have finally gotten the book Head First Java and I'm as far as page 9. This describes a first .java file as follows. public class MyFirstApp{ public static void http://www.thecodingforums.com/threads/my-first-attempt-at-java-code-fails-ok-why-please.725341/ main (String[] args) { system.out.println("Hello world"); system.out.println("It's me"); } } I have a command line compiler set up and the code is entered via a plain text editor. (NoteTabPro for now if anyone cares.) This is my result... G:\java\Projects>javac MyFirstApp.java MyFirstApp.java:2: cannot find symbol symbol : class string location: class MyFirstApp public static void main (string[] args) { ^ MyFirstApp.java:3: package system does not exist system.out.println("Hello world"); ^ MyFirstApp.java:4: package system does not exist system.out.println("It's me"); ^ 3 errors error package G:\java\Projects> So I note that the caret is actually pointing at the "s" of string. I know Java is case sensitive so I've tried it with both lower and upper case in the source. I get the same result. The caret is pointing to the dot in the system.out in the 2nd and 3rd errors. So, has Java changed since the book was printed? Or am I making a basic mistake? Thank you. Mike. IIRC, the Head First books have downloadable code, so you can compare for sure.
