to configure custom error pages in IIS (Internet Information Server). For this example we will be iis custom error page for all errors using IIS 7.5 which shipped with Windows Server 2008 R2. If we configure .NET Error Pages at the site level, ASP.NET stores the how to set custom error page in iis settings in the site's web.config file. Since these settings are stored in the web.config file they are portable and can be easily moved to another server with the site's content. How to setup Custom Error Pages in IIS https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753103(v=ws.10).aspx 7.5 Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. Select your website. Note: This could also be set at the server level and applied to all sites on the server. DoubleClick on the ".NET Error Pages" icon. The .NET Error Pages features view will be displayed. Click the "Edit Feature Settings" link to enable this feature. The "Edit Error Page Settings" dialog box will appear. In order to change the default mode, we must also specify a "Default http://www.sherweb.com/blog/how-to-create-custom-error-pages-in-iis-7-5-with-asp-net/ Page". This page will be used for all status codes that are not otherwise defined. In our example we are using a generic custom error page to trap all other errors. Once you enter the absolute URL for the default error page click OK. Note: It may be a good idea to use a static HTML page here just in case ASP.NET is not functioning properly. By default server errors are shown when logged on locally to the IIS server and custom errors will only be used from remote sessions. We will want to change this to "On" if we are logged on locally to the IIS server. Otherwise, it will display detailed server errors, and not our custom error pages. Next we will explicitly define the 404 Error code. To get the browser to throw a 404 error, we pointed it to a file on the test site that does not exist. As you can see in the following image the friendly HTTP 404 error page was shown in IE9. A friendly HTTP 404 Error in IE9: On the .NET Error Pages Actions menu click the Add link. can expose relative or absolute paths on the Kaseya server. This is a security concern so a good security practice is to hide those paths to remote viewers as there is no need for them to see it. CAUSE: By default, a custom error page isn't setup so IIS will throw back the type of page below which exposes information that could be a security risk. SOLUTION: In IIS, you can create a custom error page to avoid these paths from displaying to your remote users. Step 1)On the VSA, go to the site root folder (i.e.: C:\Kaseya\WebPages\) Step 2)Create a new folder in the site root (i.e.: C:\Kaseya\WebPages\customerror) Step 3)Create a custom error page and save it in the new folder. This custom error page could be HTML or ASP page. Step 4) Open up IIS – Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager and Navigate to the Default Web Site and open up the Error Pages page Step 5)Double click on the 404 status code, choose the Execute a URL to this site option and enter in the path and click "OK" Step 6)On the right side, click on the Edit Feature Settings link and make sure that “Custom error pages” is selected. No need to restart Kaseya Services or IIS. This was tested with IIS 7.5 and up and works for VSA versions R8 and up. For older versions of IIS and the VSA these steps may work as well but were NOT tested. This also applies to on-premise customers only.
