Error 503 up vote 11 down vote favorite 4 I need to send a Customized Error page for 503 Errors produced by my asp.net website. I have tried to simulate the condition by switching off the application pool (doesn't work) and by flooding my application with requests. Even though IIS sends me the default 503 error page, and even though I have tried setting a Custom proxyerroroverride URL in IIS and ASP.NET for this error code, it still returns me the default 503 error page ! I'd appreciate if someone could also tell me where the default 503 error page is kept that IIS sends. asp.net iis-7 http-status-code-503 share|improve this question asked Feb 16 '10 at 9:51 Storm 1,48561936 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 8 down vote Ran into the same problems, but I've just managed to get this working for us using a Classic ASP holding page in a .NET application (I'm not sure if it'll work the same for an apsx): Make sure Classic ASP is enabled in IIS. Worth a read: http://blogs.iis.net/bills/archive/2007/05/21/tips-for-classic-asp-developers-on-iis7.aspx Create a classic ASP file called Offline.asp and place it in the root of your website with the following contents: <% Response.Status = "503 Service Unavailable" Response.CacheControl = "no-cache" Response.AddHeader "Pragma", "no-cache" Response.Expires = -1 %>

In the mean time I want to throw Response status code503 and not allow IIS to throw the custom message. I have written code to in Global.asax method - "Application_Error" to redirect the error page when there is an application error. Application is ASP.Net 3.5 This is my code in the error page Response.StatusCode = 503; Response.StatusDescription 503 error page = "HTTP/1.1 503 Page Temporarily Unavailable"; Response.Expires = -1; Response.ExpiresAbsolute = DateTime.Now.AddHours((double)-1); Response.AppendHeader("Cache-Control", "no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate"); Response.TrySkipIisCustomErrors = true; Response.Flush(); Okay, the issues I am facing are 1) On an exception error page comes with "MY error page content" + "The Service is unavailable" at the top of the page.(strangely this issue is not there in development server but exists on Staging server Win ser 2008) 2) Error in MVC pages are not controlled and directly"The Service is unavailable" is being shown. The Application pool IIS set to is classic mode. Can someone point what could be the issue ?? C asp.net iis 503HTTPstatus B.BalaVikram[KingCobra]. Reply Starain chen... Reply terridonahue 855 Posts MVP Re: Custom Error Page on HTTP 500 or 503 error Apr 11, 2013 09:21 AM|terridonahue|LINK Yes, this can be done by updating the Error Pages settings. To do this, open IIS Manager. Select either the server (if you want the same custom error for all sites) or the website you want to set custom errors for. Double click on the Error Pages icon. Click on 500 and click Edit. You can then set the static error page. To set-up a page for 503 errors, you will need to click Add and enter 503 for the status code, point to your custom page and click OK to set it.
