The solution is to format your destination disk to EXT3, EXT4, or NTFS (if you need windows compatibility). share|improve this answer answered Apr 17 '15 at 7:58 Sisay Chala 3831411 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote I would say that since the hard disk is failing, there is no way to solve the error. Depending on what is wrong with the hard disk, you may be able to try copying a file several times and maybe eventually

A handful of my mp3s did not transfer when I was doing my music folder. I checked them after the fact and the ORIGINAL files became corrupted somehow. I am certain of at least a few that were not corrupted in anyway before doing this. Either a bad drive, or a filesystem problem. Are you sure that corrupted MP3's was work fine bedore copying? Also you can try to use gnome-disk utility to check your drive –c0rp Dec 26 '13 at 6:23 One of my mp3's was corrupted for sure and in a very strange way. I loaded it into the movies media player and it froze around 12 seconds. So next time I loaded it I skipped to around 15 seconds and it somehow had fused with another song in my library, then after a few seconds went back to normal. I know that the song was not corrupted because I copied it to my phone some time ago and it's totally fine on there. –alreadytaken4536 Dec 26 '13 at 19:04 Ubuntu says for my main harddrive on the laptop "DISK IS LIKELY TO FAIL SOON (32° C / 90° F)". ran into this problem, while trying to back up some KMFDM and Fear Factory tracks from my Walkman on a Linux machine. Each time only the first 138KB of each file would copy before the error message appeared. The same thing happened when attempting to copy in the command line. https://xerocrypt.wordpress.com/2016/02/13/error-splicing-file-inputoutput-error-a-quick-fix/ I did two things, one of which solved the problem: I unmounted and removed the second USB drive, leaving the Walkman plugged in - having too much crap connected often causes hardware-related problems. I compressed the directory on the Walkman containing the https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/474820-Error-copying-file-Error-splicing-file-Input-output-error new tracks, then copied that over to my home directory just to see if that worked. Maybe the hard disk is on its way out. Share this:TwitterFacebookGoogleRedditLinkedInEmailLike this:Like Loading... Is the external disk full? Are you doing a straight copy using a file manager? Have you tried copying over using the ‘cp' command in Linux? When I download audio files, I do it straight to the Documents or Downloads folder, then error splicing file copy them over afterwards - that's the most reliable way. The problem I'm having is more to do with the Walkman itself, even after I've scanned and fixed the filesystem. Reply Drazen said: March 28, 2016 at 13:11 what os do you have ? Michael said: March 28, 2016 at 13:18 Linux. I'm not having the same problem on a Windows system, for some reason. Drazen said: March 28, 2016 at 13:00 external hdd is 99% full, i just copy-paste .. Reply Michael said: March 28, 2016 at 13:16 Looks like you need a larger external drive, then. You could try defragmenting it first - I'm guessing your computer's having problems fragmenting the new files because the disk's almost full. Reply Drazen said: March 28, 2016 at 19:30 i meet the bug only in few videos i try to copy paste when disk was below 95% full.. Drazen said: March 29, 2016 at 01:52 i dont think so, the internal hdd is pretty empty, the external is close to full ian said: July 23, 2016 at 11:18 Hi. I also have the same problem copying music to and from WALKMAN to Linux machine. But it seem to happens on my Ubuntu. I tried using Sabayon Linux, and it work fine. Some says it is because of WALKMAN is in FAT32 filesystem instead of NTFS. Reply Michael said: July 24, 2016 at 01:09 Sorry it took a while to reply. Input/output error.' I am getting the following error when trying to copy a particular file: 'Error splicing file. Input/output error.' I get this same error from File Manager and from a terminal prompt. This is being copied to an NTFS partition so might be related to ntfs-3g. Also it is a bit of an obscure file in that the existing file shows as being 127Gb in size but it cannot actually be that big as the whole partition is only 37Gb! It was created by qemu-img converting a VM from hyper-v.
